Hi,

Does anyone know of any Speech and Drama lessons at Yew Tee, Choa Chu Kang or Bukit Panjang? Would prefer nearer to Yew Tee though.

I am looking for a Speech and Drama (one hour type) of enrichment programme for my child, about 3.5 years old. I know Julia Gabriel and Lorna Whiston has such programs, but they are kind of far.

From what I heard, Speech and drama classes seem more like hobby classes. Will confidence development classes be more suitable for your introverted child? Can try taking a look at SAA! They are not bad!

A good thing to try would be to send your kid to a trial class at several of the speech and drama academies and see which works for your child. I think centrestage, helen o'grady all have trial classes. Another good thing to try are holiday speech and drama programmes for the Nov/Dec school holidays. Most places have great holiday programmes, and it is a good way to see if the school works for you. sago! I don’t know why in SG parents and preschool teachers always think that they help kids in this way. Maybe it is the marketing campaigns by the speech and drama companies over the years and with due respect to the preschool teachers out there, many just suggest such classes without really understanding the nature of such classes!


If your child is shy, the best way to bring him/her out of the shell, is to first understand the causes of the shyness.

In S&D classes, usually the ones who are NOT shy will dominate the class. The shy ones will just observe by the side.
To improve a child’s spoken language is not through speech and drama too.

A few years ago, my neighbours’ twins and my own nieces were also like this. They attended a popular S&D programme since 3 years and wasted $$. Then switched to a teacher who guided parents how to create a language rich environment at home. Through a weekly class conducted in a language rich environment, the teacher helped changed the kids into confident and eloquent girls by K2. Not easy because one family spoke mainly Mandarin and none of the parents speak good English. The kids now speak way better than parents.

There are actually more benefits like holiday workshops since I sign 1 yr duration, which I didn’t list down. But as we are moving we are transferring the balance of our lessons, otherwise we will get back a lesser refund. The rate I am letting go at, is really half the rate the school is selling. I actually have 2 kids, so if you have 2 can consider too. But have to transfer before 2nd wk Nov.


Possible to let go at $1500 for 2 kids.

hello! any reviews or experience with Julia Gabriel speech and drama class? greatly appreciate any response

My dd attended for three years and always looked forward to going. It was really a big hassle for us as we stay in the north. Dd has since stopped. Till now I feel it is a good investment as she is very confident and breezed through all show and tell assessments in school.

Do such classes train the students on public speaking skills?
