If that doesn’t work for 2 days, I will go to the PD for very young kids and or to my trusty family doc for the older kids.

There is a time limit for effective self medication. 2 to 3 days max. No effect pls see PD. But if you can’t even bring down the fever with paracetamol and sponging ie. temp doesn’t go down at all after medication within the space of a day and kid is lethargic, please see the doc immediately.

But I understand every parent feels differently. However I’ve just been told of a child who died suddenly after a week of fever. Doctor is still trying to ascertain the actual cause. Apparently there was nothing seemingly unusual about the fever, just that it won’t go away. If you feel uneasy, just go for a second opinion with a good pd, not just a convenient pd.

I recently brought my son to a nearby pd for rashes but felt her diagnosis and recommended management plan was wrong and took him for a second opinion. The second pd referred us to yet another pd with specialisations who managed it well.
