<![CDATA[Radiation poisoning from Japan??]]>I know recently that the ministry came out to say that there are no reported cases of radiation poisoning as a result of travel to Japan in Singapore.


BIL just told us that a colleague has been unwell since returning from her holiday to Japan. She went to see doctor who says that she has symptoms of radiation poisoning. He even told her that she cannot get pregnant for 7 years because that’s how long the radiation stays in one’s body.

We have asked BIL to ask her for more info, eg where she went and what’s her symptoms.

It only fuels fear without justification. These rumours are ridiculous. For your info, HK’s radiation level (as officially published) is double of what is Singapore’s, and Singapore’s level is about the same / slightly higher than Tokyo’s and double of Hokkaido the last I checked.

To all others, please do not have the herd mentality and simply listen and follow out of fear. I agree that one should be better safe than sorry and ultimately it boils down to personal preference whether to travel to Japan. However, if such fears boils from gossips / unverified rumours, I honestly think these rumour-mongerers should stop!

The story has always been someone's someone's friend who got the radiation poisoning. And is always some lady who is in the age and stage of wanting to raise a family !! No story of - I got or my brother, or my mother etc got it !

My friends in japan laughed off at all these rumours. One of them is expecting with her 3rd child now !! (rare for japanese to have so many kids) I lived in Japan for many years before, many of my japanese friend volunteer during the aftermath of tsunami at the affected area do not have any radiation poisoning.

Of cos, is up to individual to believe. If you are worry do not go then.

They also asked the doc the same qns why the hubby didnt get it whereas the wife got it. The doc replied that diff people have diff health condition. Weaker people like kids or elderly may more likely be affected compare to adults as their immunity level is lower.

Sometimes, it’s a matter of luck. So to play safe, better dont go.

Doc confirmed that she got the radiation poison and advised her not to have baby for at least 10 years in case it pass on to the baby. She was already 30 now, which mean she may not has any kids anymore. Poor girl, imagine how sad and regretful she will be. Her husband didnt get it although they were together all the time so it all depend on our body condition.

Its really sad to hear that. But I don't understand why only one get it? Is it that she had eaten some food that her hubby didn't? Or could be other reason like visiting somewhere where the other didn't? I'm just curious. 🤷

Dis problem was accentuated when TEPCO suppressed more damning data fr d gahmen at d onset of d disaster.
Its now known there was nuclear meltdown at 3 of d nuclear plants,
n > one year on, d situation is still not totally under control.

Children n elderly r more susceptible to radiation poisoning.

Read about a case of a farmer fr affected prefecture trying to palm off his products fr other safe zones.
One of d bigger supermarket chain, IIRC its Seiyu, totally rejects all produce fr Fukushima n suspected areas.
Where do these produce go?
Wat do these farmers feed on?
It has to go somewhere unless they r destroyed n gahmen compensates d farmers.

He said that there was still radiation but at a 'safe' level.


I spoke about Hokkaido holiday recently and my 10 yr DS refused to consider as he is really kiasi and said there is still radiation in Japan :roll: !

Fortunately, we got to visit Osaka in the Dec just b4 the Tsunami..so long, Japan, see you in a long long while.

She was vomiting when she came back and as her GP suspected radiation poisoning, she was sent to do those special test. Can’t remember the term now. That was when the doctor confirmed that it was confirmed that she had radiation poisoning and told not have get pregnant. Seems confirmed and not speculation since she went for special tests. Dunno why papers reported that no cases…hmmmmm…

Basically, my 2yo fell very sick on the 5th day after the Disneyland and we have to cancel our flight and rebook new tickets to fly back. He was vomiting for all that he ate and had diarrhoe.

Even when we met our Japanese friends, they were not confident of their own government. They mentioned that a lot of Japanese are planning for migration. For them, they are staying put like most Japanese as they do not know where to go.

So I guess, I will not go for the next 5-10 years at least.

We stayed in Hyatt and the concierge referred us to a Japanese doctor even though we asked for the hospital. :gloomy:
Well, we came to realized the doctor is a cosmetic surgeon :yikes: when we went there. But in the situation where we cant even speak Jap, we just went ahead with the doctor. Ds was diagnosed with flu from the Jap doctor who prescribed him with antibiotics.

DH and I were very skeptical with his diagnosis.
So we decide to fly back that immediate night when ds condition became worst. When we came back to Singapore, we admitted him to KK immediately and ds was diagnose with food poisoning.

The Singapore doctor just shook his head at the prescribed medication. As parents, I prefer to play safe. Radiation is known to stay in the body for long.
I will not risk my children's health.

So is common to hv cold n once we came back, we r fine as all mucous came out in dark color! Yee yucks!


We r going there again during June holidays - Life is so short! Btw, the airfare isn’t cheap as compared last yr June. Same as hotel.
