She is forever waiting for "tomorrow" to complete her work/revision. I believe I can use this approach on DS2 as he is more "auto", but he doesn’t have exam this year (P1).

Maths 84
Her FT was surprised DD1 didn’t get band 1 as she expected her to do better than 84 as her day-to-day work is always 95 above. After reviewing her papers, there were several careless mistakes. I asked FT if it is still common to commit careless mistakes at P4. The ans is No. She is among the lowest in class for Maths.

MT 77.5
Honestly, I couldn’t ask for more. Though she didn’t get band 1, I’m pleased with her result.

English 86
The killer is her compo. Reads too much, writes a novel in her compo, thus unable to score. FT says is good to write a novel but she needs to know how to apply in exam context. Don’t know how to teach her on this as my language is weak. I have no plan to send her for tuition as she is already so preoccupied with other enrichment programs (piano, swimming & ballet, plus thrice weekly CCA)

Science 91
Happy with her results as she only revised 3 days before exam.

Anyway, I am still quite ok with his results as all band 1 except Eng which is a high band 2 as his Eng comp which is below class ave. He has no tuition at all but reads a lot of books and magazines. Still, he cannot do well in compo as school looking for good phrases used and he hv yet to learn how to apply what he read. Neither does he want to memorize phrases.

Then I asked her to set her own target grade for the exams. And sat down with her to discuss her "input" vs "expectated result" vs "actual grade".

I take this as a learning experience. She was careless, and she identified what she could do to avoid careless mistakes in future. For science, the OE questions were mostly not fully answered. So she identified where she could improve there. Overall, I emphasize not on the actual grade she acheived, but where things were going well, where things could be improved, and things we needed to address immediately.

My girl was top in class last year. The past 3 years scored band 1 for all subjects. This year her result is horrible, Eng - band 3, Chinese - high band 2, Maths - high band 2 and Science - Just hit band 2 exactly. English and Science are always her best subjects and she will usually top these two subjects in her class. She is now in the top class. From 1st position, drop to 18th out of 40 students. Initially, I scolded her badly as the teachers feedback that she didn't read her questions properly, she lost all the unnecessary marks and didn't pay attention in her works and during lessons. However, when I see her overall ranking, I feel that she is not too bad as the whole level did badly and she is still the top 25% in the level. Of course, I didn't tell her so because I feel that she didn't put in effort for this year. Slack. Didn't see her revise her works esp. during exam. She is attending Maths tuition but she relies alot on her own in her works. She has two CCAs which she loves so much that she wouldn't give up. She has lots of homeworks to do as compared to other classes. I shouldn't complain too much as we are spending more time with the younger one who is playful and needs more attention from us in her studies. We told our elder girl that she is capable and can do better if she is willing to spend time revising her works. I hope she will work hard for the next two terms I think we have to divert our attention on her also.

mum2girls

Reply to P4 SA1 Results on Thu, 31 May 2012 03:16:58 GMT

KS_me:
Hi Mychildren and yvetan2020, I couldn't agree with you more. IT IS THE ATTITUTE!!! I just spoken to my neighbour and she told me that her son changed his attitute only at age 15!! my god! do I have to wait till then?? Really not sure what to do to correct his attitutes. I even ever consider to send him to those mindage... mindchamp... or whatever mind thinking if they could do some little \"tango\" on his attitute... that will be GREAT!!

Hi, my DH also asked me to send the kids for camps that will train them to be independent or some kind of camp that can wake them up. Not in terms of academic but to be someone with the right kind of attitude, not take things for granted and to be responsible for one's action. :nunchuk:

I'm now trying some methods at home to tune my younger DS. My younger DS do not pursue reward system so I need to talk some sense in him, in fact almost everyday. Its like chit chat section to understand the reasons why he did something and why he chose not to do. By understanding these, get to know him better and develop a win win situation whereby he is happy and I'm too. :snuggles:

I just started it so still need time to see whether it works. But as parents, we need to be firm in our decision and try always to be cool headed. :imanangel:

Ya, KS_me, I do know that boys mature much later than girls so I'm not surprised about what your neighbour had said. I do believe that but I'll still do my part to let him change for the better as early as possible. Not only for my own good, for his too!

Mychildren

Reply to P4 SA1 Results on Wed, 30 May 2012 14:10:17 GMT

During ptm, teacher confirmed that p4 is still honeymoon n warned that p5 is where marks will start to dip drastically.
