<![CDATA[Singaporean family kidnapped in JB, had returned safely]]>SINGAPORE: A Singaporean family is now safely back home after a harrowing experience early Sunday morning in Johor Bahru.


37-year-old Rita Zahara was driving back to Singapore with her sister, two children and her maid.

About three kilometres from the Immigration Checkpoint at Woodlands, she stopped at a petrol station to top up her tank.

Her sister, two children and maid remained in the locked car while Rita left to buy fruits.

That was when two men armed with guns and knives demanded they open the door.

After accessing the car, they sped off with the four members in the car.

Upon seeing that her car was missing, Rita called her sister's cell phone, which was answered by one of the kidnappers.

They demanded money from her and threatened to kill her family if she went to the police.

For the next four hours, Rita negotiated with kidnappers.

At the same time, she was also in contact with Malaysian and Singapore authorities.

The kidnappers finally released her family by the roadside.

Helped by villagers nearby, they were brought back to the police station.

The culprits stole her car and all the valuables inside worth some 200,000 Malaysian ringgit.

Since they saw these robbery cases, did they become witnesses or they are 'exempted' (else too busy, no time sell fruits)


Frankly, I won't want to risk for that few dollars......

how would they know which car / motor bike / visitors would be robbers ?

I think most cars are insured for loss in Malaysia

there was also a syndicate, purposely lose car in M'sia and claim loss from insurers, esp when cannot keep up the installments .....

I recognize this place! It's the row of fruit stalls. My dad likes to buy fruits from there too, but always in broad daylight though.

Said to be a popular spot for Singaporean to stop and buy some fruits before heading back. The dark parking space is right next to the stalls. Maybe Singaporean will start stopping their cars right infront of the stalls instead.


Safer to take chance with traffic police than to risk getting robbed or kidnapped.

Read about this incident from another local forum, happened in early May this year to some guys. Probably real as the poster is quite active in that forum, and nothing to gain from creating a story. But I do not know this poster in person.



They had lunch at the JB \"paper wrapped\" chicken place and had park their car beside the canal. When they were about to leave when a middle aged man suddenly came to the car and took out a syringe filled with dark red liquid.

He prevented his friend from closing door and switched off engine, syringe was just right beside friend's arm.

The man then said in chinese \"Boss, can help me? Give me RM100 or else I will poke you with the syringe\".

They did not have enough ringgit on them as they were planning to change at KSL after lunch, that syringe man got even more agitated when they shown him all they had left was RM50+. He then demanded S$50 and by this time the syringe was almost touching his friend's skin.

Syringe man left and walked into back alley after he gave him the money, female passenger inside car had a bad scare when she saw syringe beside her husband.
Same thing happened to my friend at a car-park. He was alone then getting into his car. He said it was nerve-wrecking. :nailbite:
