We have all co-existed with other races despite our religious, linguistic and cultural differences. We did not take take each other for granted, and we all go out of our ways to ensure a harmonious existence. In fact we celebrate our differences. Just look at our local food scene.


The newcomers, some nationalities more than the others, come with the mentality to milk as much as they could. It's almost like a siege mentality, everyone and everything is against them. They fight to get the biggest piece of the pie. It's not a win win for all. They expect others to accommodate them because they are under siege.

When the locals don't behave like them ie how to always get the best, they think us gullible and stupid. When we exert our norms and practices ie queuing and speaking at a lower volume, they feel we are imposing.

At a gathering recently, some new residents remarked that they don't see Singapore as a country. Meaning a place that has a soul with a special identity and a deep rooted group of people who will defend it. They see it as an interesting and efficient place to work and live for awhile. They see us as a relatively passive lot whose sole existence is to prop up the infrastructure.

At a gathering recently, some new residents remarked that they don't see Singapore as a country. Meaning a place that has a soul with a special identity and a deep rooted group of people who will defend it. They see it as an interesting and efficient place to work and live for awhile. They see us as a relatively passive lot whose sole existence is to prop up the infrastructure.

Generally, I think Singaporeans are a very accepting lot, understanding to the extent of being gullible and trusting, we go about minding our own business to the extent that it can be viewed as apathetic and uncaring - and certainly, passive. But I can see this trend changing. Many more are speaking up as the resentment builds. I do wonder how bad it will get before something sparks the reverse, or worst.

I don't know if it is because we are lucky or what, we actually encounter very nice PRC.


We know of a PRC who genuinely want to be friend. The nanny will buy a dress for my 3 years old niece whenever she return from China. Almost same design as her granddaughter. Not airy and will share her sadness with my mother when she thinks that her daughter-in-law has not respected her and understand her.

I think environment changes people. Decades of communist control changes people at the sub-fundamental level. I believe people everywhere are fundamentally the same.

Why is it that every thread has to denigrate to govt/PAP bashing ?
This is what dilutes their flaw, if you keep pointing finger for each and everything, it makes one believe lesser and lesser.

That's all I can hear with all the screeching.....

But the PRC definitely set a clear example of what those words means....on herself of course.
Despite all the 素质 she kept screaming about, she was screaming at top of her voice, walking around proudly complaining as tho she's right and totally forgot about 敬老遵贤。 There's a reason why reserved seats are located in front and near the door...... :stupid:
