Just to share one simple stew that I think most would already know how to do: Beef stew (my own version, not the authentic one. )

Ingredients: (Sorry, my quantity all \"agar agar\" one, you vary accordingly, ok?)
Beef: 1 to 2 packets of beef cubes (can buy from supermarket, they usually state it's for stew on the packets).
Onion: 1 to 2 (2 if you want gravy to be sweeter and if going to cook very long). Use those big brown kind (not the purple or white ones). Peel and chop into large chunks.
Carrot: 2, peel and chop into big chunks.
Potato: 2-3 (I usually put 3 because I love potatoes!), peel and chop into big chunks.
Tomato: 2, cut into 4 chunks each.

Method:
1. Boil a pot of water and blanch the beef to remove impurities first. Remove the beef and pour out water.
2. In another pot of boiling water, throw everything into the pot in this order: Beef, potatoes, carrots, onions then tomatoes. Make sure water is boiling again before putting in each subsequent ingredient.
3. Lower down fire and cook for abt 1 hr or more, be careful to watch water level. Alternatively, transfer to slow cooker. Thank you all for sharing! I’ve got those electric steamer that can steam 3 dishes at the same time (saves a lot of work and the water heats up fast). However, I usually only steam the usual boring stuff like steam fish and egg, not much variety so steamer not fully utilised.

In the process of steaming, it will be cook. You need to fry the dried shrimps( soak to soften) thinly sliced dried mushroom (soaked to soften). fried till frangrance add to the mixture and steam. Steam over small fire. I cant tell you how long, You can check after steaming for 15mins. If you like it softer, add more water or vice versa. Dont cut the yam too big or too small cube. remember to add little salt to the mixture before steaming. If you do not add salt it will be too bland, unless you want to eat with other when it is cooked.

hope you will like it.

you like otah? I always steam otah too. Steamed sago?

Share with me other steaming Kueh? I like Kueh then dishes?

san76

Reply to Steam Food - Weekend Lunch on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 07:46:46 GMT

san76:
Hi, Try

-Steam cod fish with just light soya sauce and a dash of pepper(optional)
a few thin slices of ginger

-Steam yam(small cube)/raddish(thin strips) cake- 3 bowls of rice flour (not glutinous rice flour), 2.5 or 3 bowl of water, mushroom, dried small shrimp, add salt to taste.
You can cut it into slices and fried it.

-Steam eggs, 1 salted egg, 1 century egg(optional) and 2 eggs. 1 cup of water.

very simple dish. only take you a while to prepare.

You can check from the web for \" steam food\"/ \"healthy steam food\".

If you want more, can steam japanese sweet potato for tea break.

Hi san76,

I want to try the steam yam cake. Here’s how you prepare it:

1) Peel away the skin. Cut into round sections (2.5cm thick). Use a small spoon to dig out the centre flesh. Place the slices on a plate.

2) Marinade minced pork or chicken together with abit of silken tofu. Add egg and/or corn flour so they bind together. Add salt, pepper and other seasoning for taste. For me I will also add the centre flesh back into the mince so as not to waste them.

3) Place (2) into (1) and steam the dish for 15 - 20 mins on big flame depending on how thick you have cut your hairy cucumber sections.

You can be creatvie with (2). Other days you can try to mince some mushrooms and/or some spring onions.

Good Luck!
