<![CDATA[Condensed milk with water]]>Just saw on C N A that VB says he is shocked tt a family feeds the children with condensed milk and water.


I grew up on that. Price of milk powder has tripled over the decade. Has our salary tripled? Even condensed milk is not cheap.

I thought Planta, Scotts Cod liver Oil, condensed milk etc were poor man's food but now I know I was so wrong. I grew up eating them and always thought that my family was poor cos we couldn't afford milk powder. Actually, Singaporeans are very rich not in terms of materialism but in spirit. In addition, compare to people who earn less than US$2 a day, we are millionaires. We really need to step back and reminisce to remember who we are and how far we came. :imcool: :imcool:

For my child’s case, bread spread with butter is his fav. This and Mac fries – anytime man! Dish them up!
He has yet to discover condensed milk on bread nor butter and sugar on bread….

Apparently, when the mum gave formula milk, she doesnt drink. The girl is skinny, looks fragile, not sure if malnutrition, not sure anything to do with full condensed milk diet.

Having said that, i love condensed milk when i was young. Condensed milk with toast, double dose condense milk in my milo, condensed milk straight from can (use my finger to dip into the condensed milk and lick like an ice cream … yum! … how to trust my mum. Perhaps she gives me condensed milk as a supplement…eh… at that time, not many people are educated.

Looking at how many of you like condense milk, I think I am the odd one out. I hate it. As a kid, I would rather add fresh milk, coffeemate or at times milk powder to my milo but most of the time, I will be drinking it kosong. Same goes for coffee and tea.

Long time ago, condensed milk was considered a luxury. Not food for the poor! We were not allowed to take too much, and we took turns to lick the spoon clean. Before throwing away the emptied tin, we would make the last cup of milo or kopi in the tin.

No leh. children at my time took Dumex, S26 or Nespray. The less affluent folks gave their kids Condensed milk in replacement for milk formula.
