Can I ask what is the market rate now for Phil maid if they renew after 2 years contract? Or for those experienced maid, how much are you paying?

It is really getting so expensive now to have a helper. In another few months, I have to make an offer to my existing helper who has been with me for coming to 6 years. Her current remuneration includes:


Basic Monthly Pay - $450 (no off) + $20 top up card
Bonus - 2 months
Dental - $200 per year
Vacation - She joins the family for holiday trips every year. Otherwise, for some countries she has already been to, she may choose to return to Phil for visiting instead.

Next offer, i am planning $450 + $80 (in replacement for her off days as she prefers to stay home type) + $100 increment. New basic pay = $630 which is about 40% adjustment. Is this rate reasonable?

I'm not sure how much the government can do regarding the salary with the exception of abolishing the levy and encouraging employers to re-direct the money to the maid.

Singapore is competing with other countries for maids so if we don't pay a higher wage either the supply of maids will dry up or we will end up with the dregs.

I agree! Even some cleaner their pay only $800 after CPF not much left. You don't see the cleaner spending time for fb, Internet or find bf.

Firstly, he forgotten abt our appt this morning. When I call him to remind him, he said I didn’t msg him my address. When I told him I received his acknowledgement via sms, he arranged another time this afternoon for pick up. Still, he didn’t turn up. Waste my time!!

Anyone else got responsible agency to recommend?

I engaged IMS to do my maid’s WP renewal and home leave few mths ago.
I also received the flyer in my mailbox and gave them a call to check out the fees, which I find it pretty reasonable, as compared to other agencies.
Everything went on smoothly - the agent dropped by my place, we signed the docs and he picked them up and after abt 2 weeks, he sent the required docs back to my place when everything was approved.

Either maid or employer also can collect. My maid went herself to collect. First time renewal I went. Second time she lost her WP, I re-apply and ask her go collect it herself. Now she renew again, she also went on her own.

Take Q number to sign in front of MOM witness.
Employer and employee sign.
Go to another room to put the documents and take another Q number.
Called to collect the work permit card.

Everything done within 15minutes or less. I was super surprised that it was so fast. There seems to be a huge crowd there; but guess they are meant for other reason.

Strangely, I rec’d MOM’s WP renewal letter at the same time as IMS Employment Agency’s letter offering their services to do renewal for me. Fee is only $28 excl insurance $246 & MOM fee of $20. Is this agency ok?

Next feb will be her 2nd renewal. For the current contract (1st renewal @$400), I’ve agreed to pay half cost of her passport renewal+home leave (she didn’t go back)+one additional month’s pay upon completion of 2-yrs contract. her 2nd renewal with me is $450 every Sunday off ($470 one sunday no off or $500 2 sundays no off)+ 2 additional months’ pay (ie 3 renewals -> 3 mths additional pay,etc). The idea is for her to stay with me as long as possible. I don’t mind paying more for her loyalty as she is a person whom I can trust. Work wise, she’s just ok, but not lazy sort. In the long run, I think she will get more than her peers.


Actually, other than considering their pay increase, another factor to take note of is the agency fee that you have to fork out for a new maid + training time. It may just be worthwhile retaining the current one (provided no serious character flaws!)

I m paying my maid $500 a month with off day. She throw away my food because she don’t like to eat and demand for food that she like. I have no problem but she when it comes to housework she only clean 60% and stand like a SIR Stamford Raffles while I m doing the cleaning. After she is here, I become more busy. Why am I still keeping her? For the same reasons I told you.


As employers who need maids we just need to close one eye.

Yes, agree, just have to put up with her sense of being "shortchanged" and recurring antics to try to get a " better " deal despite the agreed terms. Generally she is a good worker except very easily influenced by other helpers, whenever she chit chat with the neighbors’ helpers, she will get " new" ideas and come back to test the water! I cannot imagine if she gets off days and come back with more patterns! Think in their mind, the "signed and endorsed" contract is always negotiable for their own benefit, regardless of how well they are treated…Sigh…

Sgh....hoping to do without a maid soon as i don think my fàmily finances can support one when the next renewal comes! :imdrowning:

Indeed its true that they tend to slacken after renewal, but the bad thing with her going back for home leave is that she made alot of contact with other hlepers on the plane and airport and starting discussing and comparing. Nowshe came back and within 4 mths already asked for advance of almost 6 mths and hinted several times abt the current mkt rate! Just 2days back even asked if she cld be given an off day this sat to jalan with friends......to tnink that all the promise back then of accepting the termsof ctt, actually we paid her the amt she asked for cos she threatened that she wanna go hk..... We only gave in cos she is rather go at cooking, cleaning and feeding my difficult picky kids! Sgh....hoping to do without a maid soon as i don think my fàmily finances can support one when the next renewal comes! :imdrowning:

That’s basic package not including angpaos and course incentives etc. She kept saying her salary is low.


At the end of two years, had the usual home leave for 15 days, but hint hint hint… this helper has one month’s home leave, hint hint hint… that helper has 6 weeks home leave.

After two years, we renewed: $400 a month + 13month bonus + $100 start of contract allowance + $100 end of contract allowance + 4 days-off a month. She says her salary is low. Recently, she kept repeating how a neighbour is paying their new helper $500 a month, so I will also pay her extra $100 a month for as long as I am still employed.

Apparently this is still "low" because its not enough to go round her family members back home and she’s been asking advance salary the past few months.

Next year, no more helpers for us. Its a high recurring cost, financially and mentally.
