For the benefit of Pri 6 parents keen to know the LATEST Schools’ Banding thus year ( the lists are non-exhaustive )

You are to take some points into consideration when you make selection of secondary school:

(a) distance to school
Secondary school education is different from primary school education and students are to attend CCA at least once a week or twice a week till 5 pm or
later. Your son will be very tired if he has to travel far to school from Mondays-Fridays.

Furthermore, a lot of projects and class tests during secondary school education
(including those neighbourhood secondary schools) and your son may lack of time to do homework/project and revision if he has to spend long hour to/from school.

(b) T-score of your son and median PSLE aggregate score of preferred school
We have to consider not only COP of preferred school but need to consider also median score.

If >260, there is RI in Bishan
If between 250 - 260, can consider CHS IP in Bishan
If between 240 - 250, CHS O level route in Bishan, Anderson in Ang Mo Kio, Nan Chiau in Sengkang
If between 235 - 240, Nan Chiau in Sengkang (if near 240), Xinming at Fernvale, Zhonghua in Serangoon

COP differs from year to year so you will need to review these schools with their most recent COPs.

Cannot sia!

From a quick search, most schools with high cut off points are in the central/south area.

MOE has stopped publishing banding in the S1 posting book since 2012. The last published statistic for banding is 2011. Thereafter, it is up to individual schools to reveal their banding either at open house or maybe their school website.

So in your case, if you like Nan Hua, you shall put as first choice. Even cannot get in, your chance of succeeding in appeal is still high.

i intend to put my son in GES, any idea how is the discipline and academic level in this sch currently since its banding has dipped to band 6 , i abit worried.

my ds (228) is stronger in languages particularly english,hence he would prefer a "english" speaking school culture and enviornment. perhaps Jurong sec is a better sch for my ds but he doesnt like the sch environment.

do you think GES is still a gd sch?

I intend to choose

1st choice : CTSS
2nd choice : Fu hua
3rd choice : GES
4th choice : Jurong
5th choice : B Batok
6th choice: HuaYi

But i am afraid that he may loose the chance to go into GES as 3rd choice if he cant get into 1st / 2nd choice. OR should i put GES as 2nd choice instead?

Hi Newuser,
Sengkang does not have many good schools. Maybe you want to include Hougang, Ang Mo Kio or Serangoon area schools to your choice. I will recommend Zhong Hua (band 2), Xin Min (band 1) & Maris Stella (band 3) to you. The gap between NCHS & Compassvale Sec is also very big, band 2 & band 7.

Why is Seng kang sec school express not banded and normal is?
Morn,
Band'g of sch is based on English+ Best 5 subj (L1B5) scored in GCE 'O' Level.

This L1R5 scores will group Sec Schs into the diff Bands.
Band 9 is the lowest tier with L1R5 of scores 18-18.9.
SKSS is not banded for its Exp, shows its performance of last yr Sec 4 cohort after comput'g L1R5 exceeded 19.

Normal course is Banded fr Band 1-5 only.
Band 5 is the lowest tier.
