<![CDATA[China's 'left behind' children growing up without parents]]>For many people in China, the mid-autumn festival and National Day holiday, falling within days of each other this year, means a week off work and a chance to spend time with friends and family.


But for millions of China's migrant workers, this is a working week like any other.

Many of them have young children back in their villages and do not see them for months or even years on end.

One Beijing organisation, the All China Women's Federation, estimates there are some 58m of these \"left behind children\".

This is the story of just one girl, Tang Xiaoqian from Anhui province in central China.

Thanks for sharing. Now I have a better understanding why the China national lady that I know would rather her kids study here. She’s from a village. She told me she had a 3 storey house in China. Her main reason in coming here is so that her kids are able to study here. She didn’t want to say more when I probe more abt why not study in China where the school fees there will be heavily subsidised.

We should be glad that we live in Singapore. But they do all that because they want their children to know the competition in the world and make them study lots and lots of stuff.

I recalled this conversation i had with A china intern who was from shanghai. He is now studying in one of the uni here at the moment. According to him, sg pace is blissful :faint: I couldnt believe my ears and asked again. He said had been in sg since 10 YO and had gone through our psle, o level, a level etc. He said the pace and stress was acceptable. He came to sg not just because his father was posted here, but also because competition was lesser here.

I asked him how could that be, when some china folks I know are planning to return to china because they find sg too competitive and stressful? He asked where these folks were from? I replied heilongjiang and fujian. He said oh no wonder as the pace in these cities are slower than shanghai and Beijing.

Hearing this, I am really like 一山还有一山高。
