Maybe it's because of the big park that the surrounding area is also called. Khao Yai National Park has an area located in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand, about 180km from Bangkok.

From Mochit bus station to Khao Yai takes more than 3 hours by bus. The distance of sitting in the car through the green hills, valleys, farms, sometimes a beautiful fairy scene appears similar to the movies I used to watch when I was a child, the feeling of peaceful flying. don't know what to say anymore. It was such a wonderful feeling that I still can't forget!

Iluvjr2: Free n easy is I think best done with rental car. While you can get local car rental company to bring you there, you will probably still want a car there to move around easily and quickly. Get there in the daytime to be safer (countryside can be dim at night), and to see road signs more clearly.

I stayed at Juldis when I was there around year 2000- a moderate choice for a young family driving out on a weekend. There was also a new resort then that looked very nice- http://www.kirimaya.com/mobile/aboutus.html.


We visited some waterfalls around there on our own. The park has trails and there are guides/ guided tours by independent operators. Maybe need to check the season- best to avoid too wet or too dry seasons. December is nice and cool, I think.

Try the barbecue chicken and mango salad there- Khorat specialties. There is a night market and Thai restaurants - google 'food in Pakchong' (name of town) and you may find yourself getting quite hungry! : )

It is a nice place. Went there a few times when I was stationed in Bangkok more than 10 years ago. Easy drive, some nice golf clubs to stay at. Good for exploring the golf courses. One time, was there for a running event- run on the road with greenery on both sides- very refreshing.
