I believe I am one of the many parents who are concerned with their myopia progression. My child started to squeeze his eyes last year and that’s where I started to be more active in finding out more details in myopia. I brought him to KK for eye check and was advised not to do anything but to observe. He was around 100 myopia then. 7 months later and it shot up to 225 myopia. It worried me because I am not sure how the vision will affect his study in school. My child was happily doing his work and not noticing any bad vision. I asked my peers and was recommended to Jaycob Chin. After looking at the kiasuparents platform, he seems to be using multiple names? Mr Chin, Chin Yan Jie and Jaycob Chin. Anyway, I was connected with him and booked an eye check appointment for my child. The first session took around 1.5-2hrs. I was briefed in the whole process of orthok. I believed this was adjusted accordingly to the me and my child based on what I interacted with Jaycob. I was taught in wearing the lenses for my child, removing the lenses and cleaning the lenses. The reason was that my child was not ready to wear the lenses on his own and I also thought it would be better that I can do it for him. I was taught on wearing the lenses for him, I am not a contact lens wearer myself but the process was easy to pick up and both my child and I were comfortable with Jaycob. There was no pressure and also the steps needed were easy to pick up.

We have been on this orthok journey since the start of the year, Jan 2022. We are happy with the results as there is no worsening of myopia.

Have a good Friday and weekend!

Hi, in another thread a parent shared that her kid used MiSight alongside atropine instead of Ortho-K. After a couple of years, it showed that the condition has stabilized. In your professional opinion, what are the considerations in making the choice of treatment to slow down myopia progression.
Thanks for sharing :salute: :salute: :salute: :salute:[/quote]Shoutout to @<bdi>icechendol</bdi> for providing me with detailed OrthoK information during the start of my journey. Here is an update for parents who are interested in getting OrthoK for their kids.

I began researching on OrthoK last year february, and received a lot of feedbacks from my friends and the forum. So I shortlisted 2 recommendations and I called them to enquire more about their pricing. Of cos this is what we parents are concerned about as well rite? So the 1st shop and 2nd shop pricing did not differ much... so we went to the 1st shop as it was nearer to my place.

1st shop experience: The optometrist were welcoming and provided us some info about OrthoK... he reassured us that OrthoK may not be able to correct my child's astig as it was too high :scared: but he reassured us that he will give us free glasses if the kids are unable to see clearly after using their lens. We trusted him and went ahead with trial lens fitting but my kids were very afraid maybe because its their first time? So the elder sister went ahead... but the younger sister did not dare to do it at all... In the end the elder sister said that the experience was okay not painful but uncomfortable. The lens was taken off by the optometrist after 30 minutes and he reassured us that the younger sister will be able to do it as well without trial fitting. We were hesitant ... and decided to go home and sleep over it before we go ahead with the lenses.

When we went home, I had a chat with my kids and the younger one is not keen at all. She is just too afraid. The elder one was okay but she said she did not like the atmosphere of the shop? I did not understand and called my friend who recommended me to the 2nd shortlisted place... and she advised me to give them a go as well...

2nd place experience: During the consultation, the optometrist was very friendly and knowledgeable. She look q young but the kids seem to like her a lot. She listed the possible options for my kids to control their myopia... and also clarified all my doubts and questions about OrthoK, like the safety and procedure. Becos of the prior experience at the 1st shop, my kids comfort and motivation to use the lens was my main concern. If they are unable to accept.. I will not force them and go for other options like myopia control spectacles.

So we gave OrthoK another go and surprisingly they went through a successful trial fitting that was painless and fast. The lens were taken out within 20 mins... then the optometrist showed us the changes that happened in the kids eyes after the trial... which was amusing!! My younger kid told me that it was like magic because she could see clearer after the trial haha. We were confident in their service and knowledge and my kids were also happy with the environment. So happy kids = Happy Mummy. Of course we proceeded with OrthoK right away...

There was a morning where the lens was missing in my younger child eye on a Sun morning.. n the clinic was not open. Since we are a patient there, they provided us a number to call when there is an emergency. Thankfully they responded to us right away and helped us with this crisis. In the end they taught us how to find the lens and we managed to remove it easily. Phheww..

I did not want to write a review so soon because we were still uncertain about the results, and so far we have been well taken care of so I have decided to post this today. It has been 1 year since they started and they are both very happy. We recently went for a follow up check and their myopia did not increase at all. A mom of two kids. My kids were under the care of Mr Chin Yan Jie from Stan Isaacs. He’s by far the best optometrist in Singapore although young. Very knowledgeable and patient and very transparent. Sadly he left Stan Issacs so currently looking for him. But I think he went to W Optics as heard from the staff in Stan Issacs. Anyone has contact of him?

The optometrist can detect any injury caused by rubbing (if any) during the check ups.
Hope this helps.

icechendol

Reply to All About Ortho-K on Mon, 22 Jun 2020 09:14:10 GMT

SiriusLuna\" post_id=\"1977885\" time=\"1590505897\" user_id=\"185718:

Hi all parents, I just started my gal on OrthoK. Also, I don’t think it is considered an essential service at this stage. Perhaps put on hold until opticians can resume all services?

On rubbing eyes, it should not be a habit (whether for kids or adults) as it is easy to introduce germs. The more critical thing is do the lens get out of place during sleep?
