Hello! I just registered my girl in phase 2C 2 days ago. Results will be out on the 17th. Keeping fingers crossed!

Btw I would like to ask all parents, what masks are good for kids in primary schools? Any recommendations?

The school practises subject based banding for Chinese and Maths. So children from different form classes, and of similar competency, will regroup for Chinese/ Maths lessons. This allows a more customised approach at subject level. Hope this clarifies.

Disappointed that Orientation will be via Zoom. To me, P1 orientation is an experience, and worth a lifetime memory.

Thanks Stheng! What is the format like for Berries vs Tien Hsia at P1 level? What have you heard about Tien Hsia - is it very classroom style? I’m worried they will find it boring if so.
I can only comment on Berries at preschool level is very immersive. they speak chinese 100% during the lessons, no english at all. but it's fun coz they do art and dance around and things. but if the child does not have strong enough foundation, the may tell you that they can't take your child on. at the primary level, it might be quite different. i know they have different courses for standard and higher chinese and they will ask you to do more than just 1hr a week so be aware that there will be more fetching the kids around etc. which is why we switched to home tuition. with more than 1 kid, it becomes 3D chess. hahaha!

We don’t want a super stressful place but need the extra exposure for her as we don’t speak Chinese at home. So far her Chinese is ok with the daily kindy Chinese enrichment and Berries once a week. Thanks in advance!
My #1 went Berries in kindergarten, later in primary switch to home tuition purely for logistics reasons, but base on my experience and what friends tell me about the other 2 centres, i think Berries good enough

Hihi, i successfully enrolled in Phase 2B. didnt manage to see any whatsapp group chats for chij katong.
not sure what every parent doing for your girl but please do share.
i have several friends who have slightly older children already in chij katong and so far the reviews have been very positive.. seems like a school that really cares about the development of their child. i heard that teachers in school even pick out the weaker students and give them enhanced learning.. this apparently is something that is not common nowadays compared to our time.

It is true that teachers pull out students who may benefit from smaller group and focused learning during curriculum time. The school also conducts after school lessons. While not perfect, it tries to cater to the various needs.

On chat groups, parents are likely to self-organise and set up their respective class chat during orientation or day 1 when they meet. The arrangement may be adapted for covid but i am sure there are opportunities to meet.
