The environment in the school is very pleasant and teachers are very nurturing. Perhaps the new principal played a big role but then again, I never had any issue with the previous one too. COre CCas are Chinese orchestra and volleyball (girls were champs for a long time). Nowadays still good but no longer best in SG. My p6 was in Arts club since p3 while my p3 takes volleyball.

Most importantly, my kids are happy. And when they are in a good place mentally, they are at ease and can perform well. Homework is also not too much, so my girls have a balanced life (they don’t have tuition but have several external sports, music and arts classes)

One small thing I had a grievance this year was that they opened up NMOs registration (maths Olympiads) to any and all p3 - p5. Admission $20. I had no idea Nmos was p5 standard and so bloody difficult. Most p3 kids were out of their element. It’s not right to allow the kids to attend without any training or guidance, or at least give a heads up on the preparation level required. 😵

All in all, a good school which I would recommend to anyone. My girls are doing well there 👍🏽

AHsDad

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Tue, 16 Nov 2021 15:41:35 GMT

Anyone living in pasir ris (Elias) whose kid is taking PSLE in year 2022? My two older child who are now 16 and 18 years old completed their 6 years education at EPPS. They are now in Temasek Polytechnic and one of the popular Junior College.

During those days, under the influence of friends who shared about how their children got into MOE listed of schools who received the most awards, we were initially thinking of placing our two elder children into school like St. Hilda at Tampines. We also met two PR’s who are staying with our block in Pasir Ris and shared with us on how they volunteered with St Hilda and managed to admit their children there. In fact, I saw one of the parent fetching his son there on one bicycle! :yikes:

My wife and I who are both being strong in the spirit but weak in the flesh, cannot afford to make that kind of sacrifice – waking up earlier, less rest time, feeling bad to see our children go through the hassles and stress to join the elites. :?:

As parents, we want the best for our children. We want to make sure that our kids get a head start in life the top primary schools in Singapore. Still, we make our decisions based on the comfort and convenience of our child and ourselves. As we resided just two blocks away from EPPS, we decided just to enroll them with EPPS. The decision was a happy one for both of us parents and our two elder children. :hugs:

Emphasis is for parents, principal and school teachers to work together to build confidence and positive image in the kids in EPPS. Elias Park Primary School, being an older school in the neighborhood, has the history and potential to achieve excellence on par with other schools.

My personal observations with EPPS.

Pro’s:
-\tNew principal with new ideas and challenges. I believe she will do her best to lead her team to improve the standings of EPPS.
-\tNew 4 storey sports hall.
-\tNew after school student care centre within the school compound run by established NTUC providers.
-\tDr Ang Swee Chong Holistic Education Framework which look interesting and promising.

Cons:
-\tToilet look rundown and need some touch up. It took away the glamour of the new building. When I was using the toilet, I saw of the faulty tap water running nonstop. I hope it is just faulty only today as it was the 1st day of school. I informed the admin staff and she was fast to get it fixed after the presentation.
-\tOne or two of the food stalls were closed. Hope they put it up for tender and get in new food vendors to add in more variety of food. This can be done if rental are kept lower for the food vendors or hawkers.
-\tThe number of EPPS achievements and rewards in 2018 seems to be the lowest compared to the past 8 years. I wonder if it is due to more emphasis by the school on scoring higher PSLE examination grades and whether it has been achieved.

romone28

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Fri, 05 Oct 2018 03:25:06 GMT

Like to check how your view on the school so far? Just want to share my experience as a parent of the school. Sending my child to this school was the worst decision of my life. During the Psle year, there were no extra classes. No supplementary classes and no remedial classes too, only 2 weekly half an hour Science lessons held in the mornings before assembly. Very unlike other schools. A lot of dependency on children’s parents to send them for tuition. Many worksheets were not marked and some were not gone through. I do not know why the teachers asked them to do in the first place.

As for caring teachers, only the Chinese teachers and a few others from other departments are really dedicated.
As for other teachers, well, if your child is one of the top ones, there will be lots of opportunities for him/her. There are excursions and overseas trips etc only for selected ones as always.

Non-academic 'enrichments' are:
P1 to P3 have PAL which are lessons in the sport/art/outdoor edu aspect.
P4-P6 have MOCCA, where students will learn life skills, Aesthetics, sports, Science & Tech.

2. There are various CCA like Volleyball, Chinese Orchestra, Dance, Table Tennis and Pottery (I think).

4. Strong CCA are Volleyball and Chinese Orchestra. The students (especially the girls) in Volleyball can use DSA to go to rather popular Sec sch in the east (if this is what your intention was when you ask this question).

5. I heard that students who are weak in EL (P1 and P2) have remedial class.
All students, from P3 onwards ,will have extra CL lessons (optional).

jtee07

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Thu, 15 Oct 2015 03:33:35 GMT

eliasmum:
Hi Dao,

Thanks for sharing with us about how your daughter is doing at EPPS.

Would you mind sharing more on -

1) School culture - Caring staff, caring students?
2) Does the school focus on Art? So far, my 2 children have met very caring teachers. As my children have food allergies, the teachers will help to ensure that they are fine during activities that involved food.

2. I am not sure about the weekly art lesson, but their art lessons are unlike the \"Global Art\" type of art works/lessons. EPPS has pottery/claywork. There are dance and music lessons/CCA if you are thinking in this aspect.

3. The teachers can be reached via email or a call to the general office. Some teachers do give their personal mobile phone number, but I think one should refrain from calling their personal number unless it is really urgent. If you want to speak to the P/VPs (which I have not done so), you can email the school or speak to them during dialogue sessions.

jtee07

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Thu, 15 Oct 2015 03:23:46 GMT

poopoo:
Hi parents of EPPS,

I have a few questions as follows:

1) Currently the top classes in Elias are still Courage (C) and Diligence (D) ? Not sure if Science is included. Hence, one can't really say the students in C is better than D... unless you can talking about EL and Math only.
2) Yes, P2 results will be used for the streaming/grouping... and I understand that it'll be done for every year onwards. However, the change in students are not too great.
3) EPPS has HCL. Offered to students using P4 results, starting in P5. Students with all subjects getting Band 1 in P4 will be offered (not compulsory to take it). P5 results will be used to review whether to continue or to \"drop\" to normal CL. The results to remain in HCL is made known to parents during P4 presentation to parents.

jtee07

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Thu, 08 Oct 2015 05:16:06 GMT

Hi parents of EPPS,

I have a few questions as follows:

1) Currently the top classes in Elias are still Courage and Diligence (D) ? But i do hear it from other parents how they get various help from the staff and students.
2) Not too sure about that. But I do see many art pieces from students on the walls in the school to showcase.
3) There are newsletter, workshops, letters to parents. I have no other school for comparison. But I think it is open and collaborative. The Parent Support Group (PSG) is strong. If you join PSG, you have a even closer communication with the school.

dao

Reply to Elias Park Primary on Wed, 30 Sep 2015 11:33:20 GMT

Hi Dao,

Thanks for sharing with us about how your daughter is doing at EPPS.

Would you mind sharing more on -

1) School culture - Caring staff, caring students?
2) Does the school focus on Art?
