      Sunflower mummy:
Few years back, when I enrolled my child, I also heard from neighbours that RV is one of the top school in Sengkang. Only when you are in the school then you will realise that the school may not be what it is. But glad my nightmares over 😂

Thus my piece of advise : check the school thoroughly with existing parents, dont go by its popularity. Our children future lies in the decision of parents. And always be an active parents to find out from our children their learnings in school. These days cant trust the school and the teachers completely.
      Strongly agreed. :hi5: :goodpost:

Whether no. 1 or 2. It is solely base on popularity. There must be due to some reasons that people prefer these schools. Maybe their standard is high, PSLE result is good etc. I strongly agree with sunflower mummy, it is better to find out more about the school before making your choice. Your child will be with the school for 6 years and you want to be sure that he/she will be well taken care.

          Sunflower mummy:

Dear Parents, thinking that this is the number 2 school in Sengkang? Please spend sometime to ask around from parents of existing students studying here. Dont know anyone there? Stand around the front and back gate, good enough for you to listen. Dig more otherwise regret later!

You sound like an unhappy Rivervale Pri kid's parent. However, I agree with you that asking parents of existing students could find out more about the school. I have a friend whose son is in P6. She told me that his class teachers kept changing when he was in P5 last year. Almost wanted to send her younger boy to another school this year. I had advice her not to ballot for Nan Chiau. Her younger son might end up unable to get a place in both popular schools in Sengkang. Rivervale Pri standard is quite high & the principal pushes the P6 kids by setting them high target. They also need to go back to school on the first & last weeks of mid year holidays.

          Hi! Mummy so kiasu,
Whether the school standard is really that high, I am doubtful. But majority of the kids are having tuition, so if the students done well, the credit may be belongs to the tuition centres. In this school, change teachers, teachers on course, relief teachers only nanny are very common here. One thing that is very frustrating - the school dont bother to plan and organise. From their miserable canteen food, the curriculum.....etc.All are basic needs. But its a great disappointment.I only regret for my involvement for the past few years in giving my services to them.

You seem very unhappy with the school.

Both my girls are in this school. One has left last year after PSLE and the other is still in P5. I have not heard of any complaint regarding high turnover rate of teachers. Neither any poor planning or organisation.

My girls only have tuition for Chinese and they have done pretty well in school. Hence, it is not true that credit only goes to the tuition centres.

aiyoh, all primary school using nanny ok? even top pri school.

why not stand at the front, back and side gate to gather more information. Don’t forget there are parents sitting in MacDonalds, standing near the ice cream man, sitting in the food court.

Anyhow, whether this school is no 2 or 3 or 4, the results shown from the PSLE achievements. At least this school list down in their websites their PSLE achievements complete with students’ names and aggregate. unlike some schools dare not even publish their PSLE 2011 achievement in their website.

Yes, their papers are not easy at all! This is the high standard they set for their students. Papers std equi to catholic, rosyth, raffles etc.

Since the sch is young n grow in neighborhood, the pupils background may not be first class. And of course there are good teachers and so so teachers like any other MOE sch.
In order to meet high standard and do well, parents also must work hard n study hard with their kids in River Vale . Isn’t this a common life of s Singaporean parent in a good sch here.

A lot of sch whether good or avg has a lot of new teachers, reliefs teachers and change of teachers nowadays. So must adapt to changes. It happen in All sch fr pri to sec nowadays. Teachers must attend course to upgrade n to move on for career changes too. Do not expect to see a teacher for 10 yrs. move with the change to improve.

Using Kiasuparent forum to vent the anger based on personal agenda is not following the T&C of the forum.

Based on 2011 PSLE results, seems like no. 1 and no. 2 schools in Sengkang are tie. There are 4 girls entered RGS from each school.

About 33 years ago, St Nick and Rulang were also neighbourhood schools. Students from nearby flats in Jurong and AMK respectively, family background also ranging from poor to rich. Now they are famous school.

Those graduated from Rivervale must get Alumni membership for their children’s sake in 25 years’ time.

My daughter's classmate entered RI, and several of them made it to RGS, Duman High, etc. Her class did well in last year's PSLE and I must say, lots of efforts came from her teachers. They gave lots of remedial lessons nearing to PSLE. And I must especially thank her Chinese teacher because I noticed the concern she has for the class. She even made my daughter stay till 6pm on a particular day just to revise Chinese oral with her as she was worried for my daughter.
