To all the parents and ex alumni considering if you should send your kids there, please do not.
The school was only good up until 2009 because of the principal , but after that all the teachers I encountered were mostly very problematic . I was in the E class for all 6 years there, and I was also quite a problem student because I didn't submit my math work and was failing math ( don't worry, I'm now in polytechnic , I went to express stream in sec school, got B in math O lvls but anyway, I digress.) Mrs Quek and one of the male PE teachers who doubled as my P3 math teacher , as well as Ms Peh ( who got transferred out ) , and the student counsellor were single handedly the only teachers I met who were nice. They encouraged me to do better in my math and sciences instead of humiliating me or yelling at me in front of the class, and were hands down my favourite teachers , and to Ms Peh and the PE / P3 math teacher if y'all see this I got a B in math o levels and I'm studying fintech in poly now thanks for being gr8 teachers ! Also to the student counsellor , I became an emcee for my secondary school , so thanks for helping me get over my anxiety !!
There were 3 noteworthy teachers that I did not like, and I still do not, they are Mdm Zubaidah, Mdm ( name redacted because it's a unique name ) , and Ms Toh, and I remember them all for the worst reasons. According to my cousin who is in CZPS, Mdm Zubaidah practiced favouritism -- when my cousin told her this group of girls in class had been bothering her, instead of telling them to stop , the teacher actually told my cousin to stop making up rumours ( or something to that effect ) , and she also confiscated my ruler once because \" art cannot use ruler \" . I understand teachers practice favouritism but come on -- in front of students ? That's just unprofessional now . Mdm ( name redacted ) , I admit, was a good teacher. She gave me the opportunity to go for this English reading contest where we got to the semi finals, BUT she would also scold me loudly in front of the whole class which didn't help my self esteem and she'd blatantly take sides as well. The most ridiculous incident I remember was when there was a rumour that class was cancelled , and we still went to class on time anyway. Someone ( her favourite students ) brought that up to her, and she immediately started yelling at everyone and started by asking the person who'd told her to stand up and asked her who she heard it from, and then it got to me and she told me to stand up. A classmate of mine had told me this and so I told her, and when she asked ( read: confronted ) him who he heard it from, he started crying and said he forgot who he'd heard it from ( reasonable, because you can't possibly remember everyone's name ) , and then she sent him to the principal's office for that which I felt was majorly dramatic because she could've ended it there like the teacher and adult she was supposed to be by just saying \" okay, this is why you should fact check but it's good everyone is here on time now \" , but nooo , she just had to make a big deal out of it, and of course, her favourite students got off scot free while I got scolded too ( because I was naive and believed class had been cancelled ) . Anyway. Ms Toh was hands down the worst math teacher I had, no cap. She yelled at me to get out of her class when I was honest and admitted to her I hadn't done her work ( fear of math ) , and told me to go to the \" worst class \" and not to come back until I finished my work, and when I returned , she loudly announced , \" wow, look who's back ! \" She also couldn't control her temper and once ripped my mini whiteboard out of my hand because I'd written something on it ( not a vulgarity, just something that had the word damn in it ) and threw it to the ground in front of the whole class, and I cried ( obviously , it was traumatic ) , and then after class she scolded me ( more ) for being \" unladylike \" when in the first place ... she wasn't even being ladylike or polite . Which teacher rips a whiteboard out of their students' hands ? She also singled out one of the students who had anger management issues and made a joke about him and the whole class laughed. Instead of stopping that, she let them, and when he got angry, she told him to \" calm down, it's just a joke \" and I remember sitting there and being really confused because I hadn't found her funny AT ALL , and I didn't understand why everyone was being so mean to him .

To those alumni and parents considering, CZPS might have been a good school, but it's changed . That's all I'll say. Please do not confront these teachers I mentioned because it's wildly unfair, and they may have changed ( though I'll forever hold a grudge against them ) but know if your children are in their class and seem to be miserable and picked on, it might not be their fault because some teachers will make your life hell , will make sure no one likes you and ruin your life just as long as they have issues with you / they think you have issues, rather than encourage and nurture students , like their motto suggests. Please stand up for your kids rather than sit back and let the teacher \" discipline \" them because more often than not, it results in worse problems .

letsgogh

Reply to Chongzheng Primary on Mon, 27 May 2019 15:49:56 GMT

Hello,I am contemplating to put my kid in cz ,would really appreciate your advise and sharing on below:

1. I believe an entry test was given during the orientation and the sch streamed the students accordingly as usual. I asked one of the teachers but she insisted that no streaming was taken placed for P1 & 2 in 2003 onwards. So now, I don't know what to believe.

Through my experience w CZ, there are good teachers and a few \"not good\" teachers. You can know who are the good and not-so-good ones by looking at the result of the whole class in CAs and SAs. It truly made a huge diff.

Like we can also know what kind of parents they have by looking at the kids? We give teachers what we have made for 6 six years and expect them to do magic. Some parents failed miserably with only 1 child but they expect the teachers to do it with 30 of many different types and qualities. All my 3 kids are or were from CZ. Yes there were not-so-good teachers, but they never stopped trying to be better. Through a lot of guidance and training they became better. I wonder whether we parents can accept that we are not good parents and start going for some kind of training to be better... I just do not know.
Yes they are paid, we are assigned by God to be one!

Red Viper

Reply to Chongzheng Primary on Wed, 16 Oct 2013 14:10:59 GMT

Hi all, new to this forum as my ds will going to P1 next year.

Heard from my colleagues that they have received letters from their schools to buy uniform and books.

Anyone received any letters yet or we are supposed to do all that on 09Nov ?
Thanks in advanced.
