      hi,

any mum/dad can share if it is really nec to be so KS in prep b4 P1 in CF? my boy only attends childcare and i do not send him to any enrichmt..

his reading is good, maths gen ok, english is good. knows basic hypy etc.. like any others in cc.

does he need more enrichmt to stress and drain.

Paiseh, i am a first time P1 2011 mom, so dunno what to expect.
I really dunno but I am not the super kiasu-kind so perhaps my views are not representataive.
My girls are quite relaxed, they attend PCF classes and I only send them to ICR (phonics) and Tien Hsia (Chinese). For the rest of the times, they are allowed to play, surf the net, watch Youtube and watch TV etc. No assessment books or any drilling required except I make sure they read or write stories or draw everyday. Maybe that's why my girl's English is fairly good but she's got an issue with Mandarin!

Yes I think I saw the P1 Loyal class screening results. I think generally the results are fairly good although there is no basis for comparison (I did not see the results for other classes).

Did you revise with them after their classes and before their next classes?

Currently my girl is attending P1 Headstart at Learning Point for English and Berries for Chinese.
I will revise her English and Chinese after her classes during the week before her next class starts. And daddy is teaching her Maths. We have enrolled her for Maths Enrichment in Learning Point. She needs to go for asessment before Learning Point can take her in as the centre emphasize that their classes are enrichment basis and not tuition basis.

          mtwords07,

What class is your kid allocated to?

It is very individual on whether u want to send your kid to enrichment classes. If you want to kid to do well in his studies, then extra classes is inevitable. Unless, u can teach yourself.

You know I have a friend whose girl is in P1 at CF (2010). Her girl scored Band 1 in English. My girl is very happy with her girl’s result. However, the school think otherwise. The teacher said she is not very happy with my friend’s girl result. Told my friend that her girl should do better.

Actually band 1 is very good already. Perhaps the band 1 of my friend’s girl fall on the lower side category hence the teacher wants her to do better.

            hi

i am new to the forum...
my boy is also in P1 in 2011.
btw, i know of a kid in 1 Loyal who scored 'Very Good' in all aspect. so, Loyal seem a good class if allocation is screening-related and that class has 32 students compared to other classes. prob better stud able to handle and teach?

My neighbour whose kids has graduated from CF told me usually their better classes are at the back. Previously the school does not has Gracious, Respect........ for their classes. They name the class A - J. My neighbour's kids are in I / J classes. And most of her elder kid's classmates goes to RI or good secondary school.

                JoJo,

I am not too sure on that too. Only the school knows… Perhaps they change their strategy??

If we can find out which class does that few kids that still can’t write their "abc"s… Then we can roughly gauge.

Not really, how should I say? My gals are quite \"lazy\"? They don't really like to do revisions before or even after classes. They only do when required (ie preparation for spelling etc). I was pleasantly surprised when my 6 yearer did fairly well for the screening test 😛 I hope she could continue to do well in P1 next year without much push for enrichment classes as I know she doesn't really want to go!

                    Imp75,

My girl is oso lazy. However, I tried make an effort to revise her studies with her at least twice a week for each subject. Otherwise our money will go into the drain if we don’t revise with her cos she won’t be able to remember without much practice.

Also she has HW from her cc every Friday. I will go through with her during the weekend.

                      hi,

My elder child was studying Primary 3 in 2008. The two best classes are Sincere and Respectful. They stream students from Primary 3 onwards, based on the Primary 2 results. There were neither top nor second-best class, meaning that students from these two classes are of equal quality (i.e. 1st and 3rd in level in P2 allocated in Sincere, 2nd and 4th in Respectful; 7th in Sincere and 9th in Respectful (P2 result). I can’t remember all the positions, I just tell you what I know. The school did not disclose which are the two best classes because they don’t want students feel bad if their class is not the two top classes. Each year the top classes are different, this year sincere and respectful, but next year maybe youthful or loyal.

In addition, the principle even made a speech that it doesn’t mean that students in Gracious, the first class, will always be the top ones. Prior this ‘allocation strategy’, Gracious has always been the best class, follow by Respectful, so everybody knows that these are the two best classes.

However, I don’t know whether they have changed their practice as my elder child doesn’t study in CF anymore since Primary 4.

I believe that the school doesn’t stream students from Primary 1. Why is this so? My first child was in Respectful in Primary 1 and 2. For P1 Respectful in 2006, most kids’ parents registered them through PV. Furthermore, the class has the top student and two of the bottom students in the whole level.

My younger child is in Primary 2 now. Some of my younger child’s classmates were the siblings of my first child’s classmates in P1 and P2.
If I remember correctly, I knew my younger child’s class allocation on the same day as my child’s screening test (on the orientation day). Also, some of the parents whose kids are in the same class as mine shared with me that they have other older kids in CF. Thus, this class have many students whose have sibling in CF.

                        Oooohhh… Very chim… Don’t really understand their strategy…

Perhaps the only way to know is when they are in P3 (based on P2 results) Those got 1st - 10th position will be allocated to the 2 best classes. By then we will know what are the classes.

For P1, let’s not bother about which class they are in. The most important is their results. Even if they are in the worst class, but they score well in their results, they will be streamed to best classes when gg to P3.
