<![CDATA[Travel: Malaysia - Malacca]]>Original Title: Go to Malacca alone with 2 children


Hi all,

I am thinking of going to Malacca with my 2 boys (aged 3 and 5). My mom is sick there. Need to go alone with my boys as my husband can not go with us.

Any ideas how I can get to Malacca safely with my boys? A few options in my mind:
1. Ask my husband to send me to Johor, and take bus from there. But how can I arrange our seats in the bus? It is almost 4 hours journey, the bus is two seater on each side... Will my DS1 seat alone and I seat with my DS2? Alternatively my DS2 seat on my lap, but it is quite tiring for me and dangerous for my DS2.

2. Take taxi directly from Johor to Malacca. But it cost much more.. (almost 200RM).

Any ideas please?

Any recommend the place must to go?
If this is your first time to Melaka, my suggestion of places to go (in no order of merit) are:
1. A Famosa / Church of St. Paul
- some of the oldest European architectural remains in Southeast Asia
2. Dutch Square / Christ Church Melaka
3. Jonker Street
- turns into a night market on Friday and Saturday
- if you are a fan (or not) of the Mamee snack, do visit the http://www.mameejonkerhouse.com/

Then, it's all about eating:
1. Chicken rice
- My favourite is Kedai Kopi Chung Wah. Go early or expect to wait more than an hour
2. Satay celup
- Capitol Satay is an institution in Melaka
- Restoran Ban Lee Siang became popular after Capitol Satay closed (temporarily) due to Covid
3. Nyonya food

Hatten also have a newer hotel call Hatten Place. https://www.booking.com/hotel/my/hatten-place-melaka.en.html?aid=1291240&no_rooms=1&group_adults=1 than the other one 😉 This hotel is part of The Hatten City project which is slightly further away from the busy part of the town, but next to the Straits of Melaka.

Don't bother with public transport in Malaysia / Melaka, unless you know what you are doing. Best to use Grab.

Thank for sharing. My kids are 12 and below. They will prefer to stay in hotels with big fancy swimming pools.
