<![CDATA[Secondary Schools Information in West Area]]>Can anyone share. Beside RV, Nan Hua, SST, NUShigh,Bukit Panjang Govt High. Which sec school is better in the west area. My DD is always the top 5 in her school but we are not choosing \"all Girls School\". Also worried that SST and NUSHigh are too strees although these 2 are her dream schools.

Thinking about RV and Nanhua, but she don't like the Chinese culture and HMT. I really can't think about what others school which is near Jurong and which is at least Band 1 or Band 2. Although she got full marks for maths in her SA1 this time, also worried is she good enough or is just that the school had set a lower standard? Worried here, worried now......more stress than her :scratchhead:

NJC - small cohort and small class size; so the vibe there more close-knit and more big family feel.

RVH - Being a SAP school, a lot more exposure to Chinese culture and standard of Chinese is high.

Just highlighting two points whereby the 2 schools differ from each other. Definitely not a comprehensive overview.

I studied in RVHS and then go to njc 30 years ago. Both are good schools then and now. NJC is on par with Hwa Chung JC during my time, RJC was not in the top 2 then. Over the year, I think NJC had dropped in ranking but is still top 5 JC in Singapore. Hua Chung and raffle JC are now top 2.

I am staying in cck (west) , and my DD finished psle last year, her choice then was
1. NYGH
2. NJC
3. SCGS
4. RVHS
5. Nan Hua
6. BPGH

Above were choices she made after I told her to choose schools close to home and also, influence from her schoolmates.

I think this is a little bit hard to answer because admission to HCI will also depend on the HCL grade. However, I don't think you have much risk of putting 1) HCI, 2) NJC, and 3) RVHS assuming you are fine with all three. RVHS COP will likely be below the other two so that choice order (3rd choice) wouldn't hurt you (assuming you got ballot out at HCI and NJC).

It is also unclear how many 2nd choice people got in at NJC in the simulations. Regardless, scores and choices may be different this year so no one knows anything for sure.

Depends on if a teacher takes notice of the kid or if kid is the showy type etc
So for such program only benefits the few lucky one vs if sch organises cohort wide writing festival or competition, the later will benefit more kids

Not in the West but my impression is that SCGS is quite good. For IP girls, my understanding is that they have to take Full Literature as a subject in Sec 3-4. SCGS IP also has English DSA and I believe the MOE Creative Arts Programme is targeted for students strong in the language. Not sure on how things work for the O-Level Programme though (believe Literature is either full subject or elective tied to social studies but not 100% sure).

in terms of developing more students vs development specific number of talented students ?
may be school dependent depending on various factors such as niche programmes and strength of the different departments

Considering school for DD with resources to groom her in the area. prelim scored AL6 and AL1 in english. current pri sch eng tr must have noticed something to write in her report about her interest in literary works. DD is not award winning material but one with potential and I would like to find a school which she can develop her strength further. DD loves writing and enjoys playing the piano but she spends 90% of her non-sleep time, reading. the type who carries a book, told off by teacher for reading while walking up/down the stairs etc, not competitive and very dreamy.
