<![CDATA[Teacher's Day gifts]]>With teacher’s day approaching, wanted to hear what are the gifts that parents usually get or do you simply get the kid to make a card?


I am always in the dilemma on what to give because given the no. of teachers each child has + enrichment lessons, this number can be significant… In addition, there are also some teachers that we want to make use of this opportunity to show our appreciation and wonder what to get.

So was hoping to get some good affordable gift ideas.

Last year, we happened to be in BKK before teacher’s day. As 90% of the kids’ teachers are female, I actually bought them Naraya pouches, etc… I personally it presentable and "cheap" as the Naraya products are known to be significantly cheaper in BKK.

But I think many of them appreciate words of affirmation as their language of love. I know some who have shared how a kind word from a student makes all those hours ‘worth it’.

Teachers seem to like them so far. Kids made and wrote their own cards.

For other child, everyone contributed towards a pool for some flowers for the teachers.

My gal spent 1 whole afternoon shopping for gifts with her other 2 friends...
But returned with insufficent gifts... 😂 (she couldnt find appropriates ones)
As they do have quite a number of subject teachers and 2 CCA teachers, and not forget her Elective subj teacher/ trainer....

All gifts were accompanied by hand made cards..... 😄
But not all teachers will receive a gift, some only cards.... 😉
Where she spent the whole night till the wee hrs writing and decorating those cards....
The school does give out colorful cut-out papers to all students....
to encourage every students to write something for their teachers....

Subject Teachers will go round the classes which they are teaching...
Gal told me this is the moment of emotion where the students express their appreciation to their teachers openly,
chitchatting....photo - taking and passing of the gifts and cards to them....
According to her....unlike in normal days ...Never see these teachers smiling so happily.... :please:

They ended the Teacher's day celebration by having individual class parties....
A happy and fun- filled day for both teachers n students .... 😄

I bought only 3 days ago because my dd said everyone gave something last year except her 😓

So this year is my 1st time preparing gifts. Previous years they were in another school and only half the class gave presents. New school students more passionate.
I made 2 trips and spent 2.5 hours selecting gifts, buy wrappers and another 1 hour to wrap. Kids make cards.
Total 7 teachers.

Same here. School principal announced no gifts for all teachers. Yet in my DS class, many still gave teachers presents. So my DS came back home yesterday looking depressed.


My son came back looking sad and commented that his teachers didn't like him anymore. And upset that why students not following instructions and teachers never scold them....

The principal announced 2 weeks ago. Am sure some parents still go ahead and bought their presents despite the announcement.

Then the teachers should NOT accept those gifts.. Come next year, the parents will stop buying gifts for the teachers.. Else would defeat the purpose of the Principal's announcement, and also make those who followed Principal's instruction feel bad for not buying any gifts for the teachers.

My boys did not buy any gifts for their teachers coz they were told not to do so.. But they brought lots of snacks to school for their class parties.. 😉

I left it to the kids. DD took some money out of her savings and bought some pen and made some cards for her teachers. I did not even know that DS gave his teachers something until he told me that he took a few notebooks that he got as gifts, wrote some messages for his teachers and gave it to them. His group in class also cobbled together a jumbo teacher’s day card for their teachers.

We gave her a gift and she returned it stating that she is not allowed to accept. I was :? as all the other teachers accepted except her.


But I respect her. I think she is a SAHM now. Fortunately we are FB friends now and she would put encouraging remarks when she see positive news coming out from dd1 😂

I recalled her telling me during PTM that dd1 cried upon seeing her CL results. This was a teacher who cares for the kids. In fact, the principal of dd's dream school sort of look like this teacher so I am :xedfingers: that she is a educator who feels for the students too. Sincerity, passion and heart is all that I am asking for from the teacher. With this, motivation and engagement will fall naturally.

One year in pri sch, I bought a photoframe for Math teacher and attached a card. On the day, teacher passed me back the photoframe and asked me to keep it and she only took the card.

But I was too young to understand then. I thought the teacher didn’t like the photoframe and I had felt embarrassed and disappointed.

For my P6 dd's FT and EL teacher, they insisted on no presents this year. The best present according to them is good PSLE results. That is better than anything else.

Her teachers are really great. The kids could give something meaningful to their teachers during the graduation party to show their appreciation.


Well in the end... most gave and dd didn't. Dd said she was merely following their instructions/ listening to them. I told her the only thing she can do now is to really do her best for PSLE and give them stellar results as a gift for them in Nov.

Think this overall make children unobligated to give which is good. Some kids insists on bringing gifts on the day, so teacher put aside a box for kids to deposit the little presents in there. After that, class went on as usual.
