<![CDATA[Crescent Girls' or St Nicholas Girls']]>Hi parents,

May I know which of the above schools do you prefer?
St Nicks’ COP is 253, yes higher than Crescent COP 244. But St Nicks’s this yr only hv 5 O level classes n plus it’s affiliated Pri girls, that’s why COP shot up.
My DD is offered a place in St Nicks’ very last minute. So don’t know shd transfer out of Crescent?
Any advise?

To add on, 5th reason is
are u interested in Bicultural scholarship ?
If Yes, St Nick offer this scholarship, but Crescent Girls, No


6th reason is
are you interested in a potential conversion course, from OP track into IP track @end of Sec 2 OP ?
If Yes, St Nick can offer this opportunity if you do well @end of Sec 2 OP, as she is a \"dual-track\" IP school, but Crescent Girls, No, because Cresecent Girls is a pure OP school.

You need to ask yourself : what are u looking for, by the time u have reached (2 to 4 ) years later, down the road ?

over @Crescent Girls school, find out what kind of internal Talent development programme, or is there any niche flagship programme available, over there ? And, is your daughter interested in any of the programme, there ? Eg. What are the unique strengths, of Crescent Girls school ?

For SNGS O levels, it is possible to take CL.

Both are great girl's school, congratulations! And given that SNGS O level stream will include girls from the primary division with varying scores from 230 onwards, it won't be very much of a difference compared to CGS.

Is distance a point of consideration then? Which is more convenient? Many have said secondary school days will be much lengthier than primary ones.

Also, SNGS has affiliation with CJC. Is this important to you in your gal's future plans?

Another point to consider will be the taking of higher mother tongue since SNGS is a SAP school (but I'm not sure if all students are expected to take higher mother tongue). Is this a concern?

Whichever the decision, I think it'll be great for your gal. 😄

Nothing much has changed since 2015 😂

Both schools are quite different in terms of culture. One is a SAP, missionary school, while the other has a more diverse student population. Location wise, they are also far apart from each other. I think it’s better to spend some time between now and DSA acceptance dateline to get to know the schools. It would be hard, honestly, to like both schools equally.

Which is better o level or ip in St nicks?


Any idea if can transfer from O to IP in the same school after S1 posting?
If your dd had entered by T-score -
If your daughter T score is very close to St Nick COP for IP, may approach Principal to appeal. P may need to speak to both u & your dd, regarding this.
But appeal can only go through, provided IP side have vacancies to absorb your girl, plus after Principal consult Moe, Moe also nod their head, give the green light to go ahead.
If IP side no vacancy or Moe dis-allow, then cannot.

But if yours is a DSA case into St Nick, is a separate matter, to deal with.
For DSA acceptance case, usually they don't entertain appeal, from one track to another.
But you may speak to P, see how she reply.

Otherwise, if your girl had entered St nick, by the psle T score route -
- at end of Sec 2, if she have done very well, school may invite her to switch over to IP track.

Some Sec 2 students (at end of Sec 2) have received invitation, to switch to start IP track in Sec 3.
A few may have accepted this invitation, but they need to buck up what they had already missed out in the initial 2 years of IP track.

others may decline the invitation to switch over, prefer to remain in the traditional O level track, clear O level first, after that have more option & choices to choose an A level Junior college they like (like goto RI, Hwa Chong, National JC, Victoria JC, Temasek JC, etc), or exit to polytechnic to pursue some specialized Diploma, using their O level results to apply to the faculty of polytechnic they're interested in.

After O level, although some St Nick girls may end up in Raffles Institution, usually quite a number of them prefer to go Hwa Chong, as they are on familiar ground (SAP school)

SNGS COP 2015 was lower because the school moved to a holding school for a year. Its COP would be higher this year since the school is back at its original premises after renovation.

After consultation with both parents, our DD submitted her choices for Express in the following order:

CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School
Cedar Girls' Secondary School
Singapore Chinese Girls' School
Crescent Girls' School
Anderson Secondary School
CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh)

1. SAP school (can Study HCL 2 bonus points for O level if pass).

2. Affiliate to CJC 2bonus points (in the event can’t cope HCL -something to fall back)

3.St Nicholas is a "full school" whereby the alumni of St Nicholas secondary school can also get in via phrase 2A to their primary school. (Think for your granddaughter-additional option)

I am still studying in St Nicks but overall, I feel that the environment are really good and our principal inculcates good values in us. Our seniors are really friendly and the graduates frequently visit the school and help out in many activities. I’m not saying that Crescent Girls’ isn’t good though. Additionally, although some of my classmates are from the primary side, they are really awesome friends and they don’t push you away just because they are from the primary side and you aren’t. Hoped this helped.

I am only from the secondary site and nver attend the primary sch. I am now in TJC. From what i have experienced, st nick’s teacher quality varies. But its school material are more than enough to get you A for olevel. There is also alot of aout of syllabus stuff and extra stuff. most people in our class have tution even if they do not need it at all.


I think the most attractive thing about st nick is the school culture. It really practise what they teach the student about truth and love. It is the best school in my opinion and my happiest day is spend there. The teachers are extremely friendly and helpful and give me alot of extra help.

Her results are not fantastic, 60-70+ range, but her parents’ view is that letting her learn how to study on her own is more important, cos it will be crucial during tertiary years. So if you are concerned about tuition, my take is that you can still survive without tuition in SNGS. But if you have higher expectations from your child, then it’s your personal choice.


I don’t know about Crescent Girls, so I can only speak of SNGS. Some plus points for SNGS:

1)Bilingual emphasis : Not so ‘Chinese’ as it used to be, but still, it is an SAP school, and there are many programmes with bilingual or bicultural components. My niece was not very fond of Chinese, but by sec 2, she was reading Chinese novels regularly.

2)Warm, Family environment: The school has a warm, family-like atmosphere to it. The girls are generally very friendly and the sense of camaraderie and ‘sisterhood’ is very strong. Even though school work may be challenging, many find motivation to do well by supporting each other.

3)Mission school: this may be a -ve point for some, but actually, having some sort of spiritual education is good during the teenage years. I’m an old girl myself, and I come from a Buddhist family, but religion was never an issue in school. It was fun listening to Bible stories, and good for values education too.

The Parent Support Group and Alumni support network is also very strong.

Oh, and since SNGS is running the IP programme, you may want to check with the school if they will allow girls who perform well at sec 1 and sec 2 to switch to the IP track. If yes, that may be another plus point.

But another important factor should also be distance. If you stay on the west side, I would think staying with Crescent is a more sensible choice. Secondary school hours can be very long, with CCA activities and extra lessons, if the child needs to spend more than 1-and-a-half hours on the road to get home, she will have little time to do homework at night.
