The probability of getting his child name is 1/3. Probability of not getting his child's name is 2/3.

Let's suppose that he chooses his child'sname. Then it makes no difference. The other ballot will not have his child's name. So in that case, by keeping hisr choice, the probability that he chooses his child's name is 1/3 x 1 = 1/3.

But let's suppose he did not choose his child's name. In that case, the remaining ballot is guaranteed to be have his child's name. Thus, by keeping his choice, the probability of getting his child's name is 2/3 x 0 = 0.

Thus, his total chance of obtaining his child's name will be 1/3+0=1/3.

Again, let's suppose that he had choosen his child's name. By changing his mind and open the remaining the probability that he gets his child's name is 1/3 x 0 = 0.

But let's suppose he did not choose his child's name. Again, this means that the remaining ballot must have his child's name on. Therefore by changing his ballot, the probability of getting his child's name is 2/3 x 1 = 2/3.

His total chances of getting his child's name by changing his ballot is: 2/3 + 0 = 2/3.

Very creative puzzle.
