<![CDATA[All About Pre-school Graduation Concerts]]>Original Title: K2 grad concert... $200 ex??


There is this child care in the north asking parents to pay $200 for an hour k2 concert for 4 seats. Is it norm to pay $200 for a k2 concert for 4 seats? I find it ridiculous....

Can't they just find a cheap place like in school to do it? Why should the parents bear all the cost???

Yup...they banned parents from taking videos of their kids...bcos these parents run to the front of the stage and take videos without thinking of parents sitting there trying to watch the children's performance.

Daughter's graduation concert was held at church kindy hall...so no need to pay for use of place...but props/costumes cost $60. We attended because she is graduating.

Forgot to add. $60 for DVD and graduation package...1 8R photo and several smaller ones.

On the day of the concert, parents pay extra $10 per 8R photo of their kids taken individually during the full dress rehearsal.

We paid, $50 for the concert costume.
$80 include buffet (lousy) 2 tickets for parents & 1 cd.
Venue at auditorum.

A friend teacher, she said costume actual cost about $18-$20 the shop at Jurong (how true am not sure)

Most of the costume were from used onces of previous year for other classes. Well, it was a good idea that we parents don’t need to pay and still enjoy the preformance.

Other than paying $30 for his concert costume which is a luminous green shirt and white pants and $20 for the concert DVD which is optional, we need not pay for anything else. My older one studied in Learning Vision and I remember paying for about $200 for the concert tickets and costumes. The concert was held in NUS Cultural Centre.

I agree that they could have it done in a cheaper way…although my kids enjoyed it but I can see that they were very tired…

My DD1 goes to a CCC that is under HDB block with no air-con and not part of any franchise or big-name chain so we didn’t have to pay much, not even close to $100, cos the CCC understands that their clients aren’t rich and they will try to save when possible like renting the costumes instead of buying, making their own props and incorporating the children’s own clothes into the costumes (like jeans). This doesn’t mean that we get shortchanged though; we still feel satisfied by the standard.

I can attest to that, my son goes to the same school, and paid similar amount for his concert. My husband got put off by the amount, and wanted to refuse to pay for the costumes, we were effectively told that it's not an option since he'd end up not having a costume for the performance.


In saying this, there are many plus points about the school, and taking all things into consideration, I've decided to continue to let my younger boy attend it as I believe it's still a good learning environment for him to spend his pre-school years. At least I do know what to expect now when he reaches K2!

yes, there are still many plus points of this preschool (think the above mentioned is the only neg point). i told hub that if i would have another kid, i would still put he/she in this preschool as the the results of the \"output\" was clearly shown on my gal when she carried on her education in pri sch and on top of that, she really enjoyed her days there.

may not be 100% true, but i think that the more popular/upmarket the childcare is, the costlier the grad ticket - so such families can surely afford; albeit reluctantly.
those who cannot afford or don't see the need, it is not compulsory.

my ds1's graduation is FOC, but if given a choice, i don't mind paying a reasonable amount cos the FOC graduation is really FOC-standard. :roll: even the graduation potrait is poorly taken. 😛

as for my gal's K2 graduation concert , i was the one who made the payment, of course i knew the figure.
probably minus off the 2 extra tickets at $40 each would make the sum looks smaller.
if u speak to any of the pat's kids' parents, they would be able to tell u how much they spent.

if i would to add in the expenses of buying a white full dress and a pair of black shoes just for the graduation photo taking, it would cost even more. than $500.
that's y at another thread regarding pat's CC, i have \"warn\" parents abt the K2 graduation expenses incurred. (I wish someone had told me earlier b4 i enrol my gal, at least i would be mentally prepared)

no doubt it was not compulsory, but every1 of the kids was participating in the concert. it would be more \"demaging\" or affecting the child's self esteem if he or she would to be left aside staring at their friends' practices/rehearsals in class with disappointing look. i witnessed such incident that happened in another childcare centre whereby the child asked me \" Why am I not chosen to take part in the concert?\" with a saddening voice.

My DD has just graduated this year and fortunately my total damage is $58 only.

costume - $12 (school provide costume, parents pay for dry cleaning cost)
photo - $26 (this is optional photos are taken during during their full dress rehearsal at $2/pc 5R size and we selected 13 pcs).
DVD - $20

Tickets are given free as the concert was in the school church auditorium. Each family is given 4 tickets. After the concert, nice simple buffet was being served. No charge 😉

Talking about K2 Graduation Concert, I remembered I paid closed to $500 for my Daughter Concert which was 6 yrs ago ( now she is in P6).
It was indeed ex, I remembered that I was so reluntant when I was writing out the cheque. :!:

Although the Graduation Concert was indeed impressive having been held at the Victoria Concert Threatre and the whole 2 hrs show was rather professional, I still think it was a waste to spend so much money, or too extravagant, just for a kid's concert. What to do.........if you wanna to watch your kid on stage and everyone was paying for it.

The payment included 1 st 2 tickets (for parents) at $100, subsequent 2 tickets (for grandparents) at $80, Graduation Professional Photo- taking (around $120), Concert Photo-taking, 1 CD and 1 VCD, 2 costumes at $40 each ( for a Eng and Chinese Musical Drama). Did I leave out anything else, I think that's all. Oh ya.......the school gave a small graduation gold ring to my daughter.
