At the end of each week, she’s able to carry forward some savings for use in the following week.
I would give her 10$ to top up her ez link card when the value runs below 5$.

During my sec school days, I remember spending 60c for a bowl of noodles as lunch!!

Thank you for all the replies. I guess it depends on appetite then. DS is eating 2 lunches everyday (one during recess and one during lunch) and snack in the afternoon during 3rd language recess. But I will monitor his weight. 😓

My boy is also eating a lot.. Only P3 but he can eat 2 chicken pies/2 slices of banana cake one hour after very filling lunch..

Recess he is also having a bowl of noodles even though he has a filling breakfast every morning.. But still thin 🤷 tall and thin 😉

i think it's ok for boys lah. Let your boy eat. The more the better. I rem my cousins and bro told me they ate 2 plates of chicken rice during recess last time. They even ate 3 hamburgers or 3 bak changs after ECA! girls hv smaller appetite and will keep their weight in check, esp during puberty when they're starting to get a bit vain.

Dd (sec 3) receives $20 per week to cover mainly her meals in school.
For "big ticket" items such as textbooks, she receives additional money.
If the school has early release (due to some events) and she wants a McDonald or Subway meal (usually $5+) with her classmates, there is no top up.

So now he’s in Sec 4 and he is starting to eat much more than before, without him requesting, I increased to $6. For days of CCA when he takes dinner outside, I increased from $8 to $9. He never complaints, just said whatever I give him, he’ll spend within his means.

They will only go to bookshop if they need to buy exercise books or stationery (when run out).


When they go to Sec Sch, they learn to control their spending on food so I am fortunate that I don’t need to increase their allowances each year. However, at one period of time ds complained that he was always hungry, so I had to top up when required

She loves the tuck shop. Wanted to buy ice milo. 1.10 for can, 0.50 for cup. She bought the can one to share with me and later bought a few jelly… Not sure if 2.00 is enough for her, lol… But I will tell her to drink from her water bottle. 2 bucks is strictly for food… Wait till she goes to the bookshop haha…


80 bucks per mth during my sec sch. Transport not in cos I walk to sch.
Again these days cost of living go up…
At the pri sch tuck shop the portion is really little for $1 pasta n chicken rice… If ur child is a big eater may want to add this or that… So will see how it goes than moderate the pocket money

I was in secondary school from 1995 to 1998. My mum only gave me $50 for the whole month excluding transport.. Still must save 10% every month.. $1 for every week church offering.. Technically I only had $40 to spend for the whole month.. No extras if I wanted to go out with friends.. I survived.. I was given my allowance only once a month.. If I used up my money before the end of the month.. It's gonna be a sorrowful sight..

However I had some privileges like I could choose any snacks or food to bring to school so I could save some money.. Grandma can also prepare cooked food for me if I wanted to bring..

Kids these days are so pampered..

* My parents were doing pretty well at that time.. Dad was a businessman and mum was a high flyer in SAF..


Haha, high flyer in SAF, does that make you a white horse during NS time.

Girls do not need to go for NS. But both my brother and I got an invitation to sign on army after our O levels. Not sure if it's because our mummy was working in SAF 🤷
