I remember studying Macbeth, Into the Wind and The River Between in upper sec. Absolutely no memory of literature in lower sec. I think it’s because my school kept changing the literature teacher. I only remember learning poems in sec 2. Absolutely clueless during lessons.

There's a part of every character's quality in each and everyone of us, the good and the evil. We are able to see these qualities through the innocence of Scout's eyes, with neither judgement nor prejudice. She showed us life as it is, in a most unadulterated, funny, heart-breaking, heart-warming fashion. After all these years, its message never really left me, and every now and then when an event happens, I get that deja-vu sensation that brings me back again. The story may be based in the deep South where the hornet's nest of racism lies, but I could see it happening right here in Singapore with the xenophobia that accompanied short-sighted planning by the powers that be. Think about how the race card is always played these days by the citizenry whenever something happens that disadvantages us.

To kill a mocking bird is a great story. It has in some way, shaped how I think about certain things in life, a copy of it now sits on the book shelf at my parent's place,waiting for my son to read (will be many years to wait).

i think i roughly still can remember the 7 commandments, like the amended version.... :evil:

For Shakespeare, i did \"Julius Caesar\".....but gal did \"Macbeth\" also in yr 2....
Frankly, i dont really enjoy Shakespeare plays....
mostly lots of violence and bloody scenes, revenge with murders and tragic endings..... :sad:

Yup....i like the amended version....esp the last one.... (how true it is even in real life!)

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: and I thought I was alone - not understanding the language. Did r&j for my o levels but guess what, I had never read r&j from the first page to the last page. Not even once. I just couldn't understand what I was reading and found it a total waste of time to read.

Hey! I did those 2 too, although I can't remember which year I did them in. I don't like Animal Farm as I felt it was too contrived and frankly, quite boring, but TKAM deserved every bit of the Pulitzer it won. It has all the elements in there. I loved that book. Harper Lee's my idol.

I also recall \"King Solomon's Mines\". The Queen of Sheba filled many a night of my adolescent dreams :evil:
