We are able to see these qualities through the innocence of Scout's eyes, with neither judgement nor prejudice. She showed us life as it is, in a most unadulterated, funny, heart-breaking, heart-warming fashion. After all these years, its message never really left me, and every now and then when an event happens, I get that deja-vu sensation that brings me back again. The story may be based in the deep South where the hornet's nest of racism lies, but I could see it happening right here in Singapore with the xenophobia that accompanied short-sighted planning by the powers that be. Think about how the race card is always played these days by the citizenry whenever something happens that disadvantages us.

ChiefKiasu

Reply to Literature Texts Used for Secondary Schools on Sun, 17 Mar 2013 10:03:15 GMT

Imami:
To kill a mocking bird is a great story.
