A better tomorrow:
There was a real case where a girl scored well in primary school 249 and went to a good secondary school .she did not score well in sec school and ended up in jjc . She did not do well there either And now she has graduated from there and is in SIM . . Was it a wise choice for her to go to a jc in the first place ?

There are many instances when parents and kids do not know their own strengths and weaknesses and which path is better. I came across one who did poly and when on to nus, one who did poly, went on to SIM, one who did not do both, went private cert and distance degree, one who did jc and flung first year, retook and then went on to ntu, one who did jc, then poly then private degree. One who never do degree and now a business man.

There is little benefit to analyse that girl's situation at this point. Key is if she keep on working for what she wants, she will get that degree at the end of the day. And that degree only serves to open that first door for that first job.

But he enjoyed his time in poly and did well and started to know what he wants. He just got a place in SIT. So we are happy for him. Personally I felt that there are alot more options these days so it’s not an end if one didn’t make it to JC.


I have a niece who is in JC currently and it does appear to be very stressful.

The 'A' level route is not suitable for every student, as it requires students to study very content-heavy subjects. Students who learn better with hands-on activities but who are averse to memorising content or writing essays will be disadvantaged if they take the JC route.

Although 90.6% who set for the 'A' level exam got basic passes last year, this statistic does not reflect the number of students who dropped out after JC1. It also does not reflect the number of students who do not make it to NUS, NTU or SMU despite obtaining 'A' level passes. If you're not confident about doing reasonably well for the 'A' level subjects, the poly route will be better for you.

After poly, even if you're not among the top scorers, you can still apply to study at universities such as UniSIM. There are many universities that offer part-time courses. If affordability is an issue, you can work and take your degree part-time.

Generally, it's better to make decisions based on your personal strengths. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses. If you are unsure of what your strengths are, you should consult your teachers so that you can make an informed decision. 🙂

What is the current acceptable results from poly to gain entry to local U?

In the past, it was more difficult for poly grads to enter local U, is it still the same?

The younger sis prefers poly’s cirruculum than JC after doing some research on it. Which is good? I think there is no good or bad, all depend on individual - which is more suitable.
