Does anyone have any contacts for PSLE oral preparation? I feel this is very important but dont see anyone talking about the English oral exam. I spoke to an MOE officer who told me that the English oral is allocated 30 marks!! I think this may be a quick way to up my daughter's English grade.... am I barking up the wrong tree??? 😓

Maybe we are busy with SA1 and oral SA1 is over so we are not too concerned with it? Or, in my son's case, he is doing ok with English Oral so I am not worried about it. However, he is doing quite badly in Continuous Writing (40 marks) and I think quite a few parents are concerned about compo too so we talk about it. Situational Writing (15 marks) is manageable so it is Continuous Writing the one I am scared about. Altogether the writing component is 55 marks. How's your daughter's Continuous Writing?

Hi,
Two teachers against one student.
English is about sandwiches making session. Chinese is about Sport Carnival. I guess there is no need to prepare for these two items for tomorrow Oral. It cant be the same.

Check your child’s breath. Bad breath is a big turn-off. Even if the child can speak very well, it is difficult to hold the breath for 10 mins to endure that bad breath. Encourage your child to freshen up his/her mouth by sucking sweet and drinking water to hydrate the voice. Act confident at all times. Be polite, cheerful and smile. Body language is also important as well.

I regretted not starting PSLE preparation earlier for my son, thus I understand how the \"last min\" parents felt when P6 roll up on us! :imdrowning:

Just to clarify, I'm not a tutor nor advertising for anyone. I joined this Forum only this year cos it's my 1st PSLE and I do benefit from reading all the PSLE related forums when I was panicking. When you are a late starter and feeling PSLE panic like me you will know we have no time to waste!

Just read the negative feedback about this PSLE tutor who was raved about last year. Nearly wanted to send my DS to her last year after reading the feedback hence was shocked to read the tonnes of negative feedback about her. Lesson learnt: be more discerning when we read the feedback from parents. Go to the website and see if there are handwritten testimonials from parents instead of typed testimonials by the tutor or centre.

After assessing him, they recommended we put him for a one-to-one course which we could fit into his hectic P6 schedule. We only had 3 lessons and we noticed the difference! His confidence and speech improve quite significantly. The recent SA1 Oral English results was proof for us it was money and time well invested! Make sure you check the trainer since you signed up already and ask for trainer Brian Lee if you can.

My son went through a P6 English Oral course, he is more confident and prepared for the upcoming P6 Oral Exams. In fact he is now more comfortable speaking in public. I am glad the money is well spend!

The individual schools will have the rubrics to this, if I'm not mistaken.

There is a score range from good, much better to excellent. Even if there isn't a score, i believe there might be remarks on which component to improve.

What I mean is, out of 30 marks, is 20 marks considered decent or lousy?
Or only marks above 25 is decent? Dun think we know what is the school/national mean for Oral, so we do not know if our DC is performing \"up to the standard\".

Of course we all know that oral is a life skill, but not everyone has the gift of the gap, or can get full marks (that would be ideal!). So just trying to get a sense of it.

You can ask your son's teachers. For each subject, they would already have set a goal for your son. Your son should already knew it. The teachers have even broken down the goals for Paper 1, Paper 2, Booklet A and Booklet B. Even by sections in the paper.
