Which budget airline would you recommend for SIN-MEL. I realised that SCOOT doesn't fly to Mel?

You can try emirates or etihad airways. not budget, direct flight and fare quite affordable compare to SQ and Qantas

We did jetstar to melbourne 2-3 yrs back.. kinda stretchy but with a transit in Darwin ( kids can catch a meal in the wee hours :).. the flight was tolerable considering i paid $600 for 2 Adults and 1 kid.

With Scoot now, i will not consider other options.. hehe.. ( last trip was SG-Syd)

Tiger Airways has more complaints than the other two. It also seems like almost all their planes are empty, with only three to five seats occupied out of a hundred. Shocking.

I just came back from KL by Airasia. Less than an hour flight I couldn’t comment but overall is ok, just that the LCCT KL upon arrival need to walk very far to the arrival hall.

My first time taking budget airline. Before that I’m suppose to take tiger airway but they rescheduled the flight to evening so I cancelled and still waiting for their refund afte 2 months.

my own experience with Jetstar, Air Asia and Tiger are okay. But I noticed there are lots more complain against Tiger than Jetstar, and hardly any complain against Air Asia

also bought multi-sectors on Jetstar for friends and it all turned out okay…they even emailed reminders on upcoming flights, no bad!

the dirtiest aircraft belongs to Tiger - even for new aircrafts the carpet was heavily soiled and the toilets smelly

my 76-yr-old father took jetstar to HK recently. on arrival home, remarked that it is not for the elderly, and that he will not take one again…

timing is bad, departs early hours, and arrives part midnight.

i would suggest that unless price is at least 30% cheaper than full service flight, skip budget…

That makes SIA a world class airline. We had a bad experience with Cathay during our May holiday. Flight delay and we were made to move from gate to gate which is located far apart. Our kids did not have dinner until 23:00 and was given only snacks. I wrote a letter of complaint to them and they just give an apology. Very disappointing and it should be our first and last experience with them.

Last June was returning home from Hokkaido on special SQ flight chartered direct to s'pore. We had lunch at about 4pm. They seemed short handed. I wanted to buy something from their duty free but the crew curtly informed me it was out of stock. Emailed them to feedback but they just sent an email to apologize.
Have been traveling on SQ since I was a child. Never encountered such disappointing service before. Don't know whether because the flight was chartered for Singaporeans, that's why lidat?

I agree about the snack part but the gates are handled by air traffic control so the airline doesn't have much to say to that.

Have to agree that S is really much better.. I only take budget when the prices are super low.. otherwise I can't afford to travel My DH who travels often, insists only on SQ for company trips..

Erm i usually buy fr outside, cos i don have high confidence in budget airline’s customer service. Every policy is different, so do check before buying. I bought thru a fren, supposed to even cover terrorist attacks

Mrsbongz, is it better to buy from AA insurance or ok to buy from outside, eg ntuc? Do most insurance co cover budget airline delay?

If u do take tiger, pls check ur forms n itinerary carefully. My dh once booked a flight (fri nite dep) n received e itinerary 1min later confirming booking for a sat morning flight. I usually go w budget airlines, but tt was e last time we booked tiger!

Took all 3 before. In my case, Jetstar was the worst one with the longest delay (3+ hours before we could take off on a flight to macau); Tiger not far behind in terms of overall experience.

My experience with Air asia ok.

Unless it’s REALLY cheap, else, I would only take full service airlines. The (lack of) service is really too irritating - I’ve ever spent hours on a phone waiting for someone to pick up the line, and I guess I was lucky that someone actually did pickup that phone at the end of it.

I have taken both Tiger and Jetstar. Both were on-time (altho most may say Tiger delays).
