<![CDATA[Good Secondary Schools (North)]]>Hi all.. :imanisland:


Would love to hear from experienced and knowledgable parents on good secondary schools within the north area so that we can make more informed choices with real time information from the ground. 😉

The definition of \"good\" schools may vary between us, but nevertheless would love to hear your take on what makes the school (of your recommendation/knowledge). Not necessarily based on school's COP.

Anderson in AMK, Riverside in Wdlands are our other choices we made.

If specialised CCA and holistically better and the child is keen as well then distance wont matter much. I cut the travel time by using grab which is sort of an investment if that helps. Sec sch is crucial with affiliation and all so yes that might play a part for their JC later on (IF plan is to do A levels). If ur child plans to go poly then prob that wont matter as he/she should be able to go any sec sch without the need for affiliation cut off.

Need some advice. My son score 195, science A, Math A, English B and chinese ungraded. We are keen to put him to YTSS but he is only eligible to NA so we are wondering how high is the chance for him to promote to express. If im right my DS was 75% overall and not per subject.

I cant tell the difference as my DS from Sec 1 to 4 spent alot weekends doing homework and stuff. He was non-DSA.

Some of them that don't do well academically will need to go NA.
Not sure about those non DSA sports students.

My DS did ok and was eligible to go to express elsewhere but we decided to go to YT as NA and by sec 3 he jumped to Express.

While the school’s performance itself is clear as to how the school is all-inclusive and that the staff value all children’s strengths and builds upon them, seeing is believing really… Many parents who attended the Open House were interested to find out more about how NA students are being supported in Yishun Town… and how the pace is like… etc. It is schools like these that sets itself apart, for genuinely caring about all students regardless of their abilities/streams… because they believe and along the way, inspire students : that everyone starts on a clean slate in sec one.

PS. It is not that Yishun Town did not have a proper open house. They had theirs earlier in October. This is good so parents didn’t have to rush to different open houses after PSLE results day. But it is a fact that they still did open their doors for parents who missed their early open house, despite it being more of a brief outlook show.

I had the pleasure of visiting Chung Cheng as well. Will share when I have more time.

He ended our brief conversation with a, \"I highly recommend your daughter to join us if you want a good school within the neighbourhood. Our teachers are passionate abt helping us and they're very kind.\"


Coming from a young teenaged boy, those words left quite an impression. :please:

I can sense she was quite dampened not getting to visit but she was concerned about her baby brother's fever escalating if we were to take a long time travelling up and down and spending time there at the open house. To console herself, she said there's always next year, right mom?

If my lil one wasn't so ill I wouldn't mind bringing all of us there to look see. Yes, it's fantastic to have something to work towards..... and this girl sets her own targets. I have two polar opposites, so each individual require different academic attention.
