<![CDATA[Disneyland Hong Kong]]>Hong Kong Disneyland has unveiled its third and final part of a US$464 million expansion plan


HONG KONG: Hong Kong Disneyland has unveiled its third and final part of a US$464 million expansion plan, in a bid to draw more visitors.

The new attraction, called \"Mystic Point\", has a haunted house and a carriage ride, based on the adventures of fictional explorer Lord Henry Mystic and his monkey Albert.

The theme park's management said its expansion plans had paid off, with the park turning in a profit for the first time after seven years of operation, thanks to increased visitor numbers. It also downplayed any loss of business that the opening of Shanghai Disneyland, that is slated for 2015, might have.

Nearly half of the six million visitors in 2012 were from the mainland, particularly the Pearl River Delta.

Bill Ernest, president of Asia Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, said: \"We have a product that's unusual here for Hongkong Disneyland. We'll have that same product in Shanghai. We believe that the two parks really compliment one another, and they'll have different and unique products in both locations.\"

From my friends, never been a better time for Disney aficionados. Zero Queue for rides and attractions. However, some shops on Main Street and some restaurants are closed. The other thing to take note of: your travel insurance ain’t going to cover some stuff as long as MFA travel advisory is in place.

No more fireworks. Stopped since Jan 2018 due to expansion works in Disneyland. For the time being, they have replaced it with a night parade for the visitors who are still in the park after dark. For those staying in the Disney properties, the hotels will have activities like outdoor movie screening (see their cute 'car' seat below), game time or story time to keep the little ones entertain and engage in the evenings.

Personally, I’ve stayed in both Hollywood Hotel and Disneyland Hotel. I've yet to try their newest Explorers Lodge but from what I've seen so far, the new hotel theme looks amazing (as you would expect from a Disney property). Unfortunately, while the Disney hotels may be great for exploring Disneyland and Lantau Island, they are not so good for exploring everywhere else due to their distance and difficulty in getting there, especially by public transport. I’ll usually pair them with a city hotel in either Kowloon or on Hong Kong Island if I want to spend time in downtown HK (ie do either Disneyland first or last on the itinerary).

Outside Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, I’ve stayed in https://www.booking.com/hotel/hk/novotel-citygate.en.html?aid=1291240&no_rooms=1&group_adults=1 (Tung Chung) as well as https://www.booking.com/hotel/hk/dorsett-tsuen-wan-hong-kong.en.html?aid=1291240&no_rooms=1&group_adults=1 among many other places. Both are sort-of compromise / go in-between solutions between staying on-site in Disneyland and/or a city hotel (n.b. Novotel Citygate is definitely nicer but 2x more expensive than Dorsett Tsuen Wan, which is located in a non-touristy part of HK).

Obviously, it's a Disneyland so expect all the characters, souveniers and a parade, but food options are limited, and there are definately no adult rides. I would say if you're a real Disney fan, or you have nothing else to do while in Hong Kong (which is the most amazing place, and I'd be suprised if you can't fill your time in with better cultural experiences!), then take the time out to go - just don't expect a fantastic day out.

How many days have you set aside for HKDL? 3D2N or 2D1N?

Ideally, you would like to start the day early (in case there are big tour groups or long queues later). Head for the popular / slow loading rides first eg Ironman, Winnie the Pooh, RC Racer, Toy Soldier Parachute, Obitron / Dumbo. The rollercoasters - Big Grizzly and Hyperspace - as well as Mystic Manor are quite fast loading, so there's no real urgency. If you can, try to get one or two shows out of the way before lunch break.

I went for only one day and covered almost all the rides. To be one and half day would be ideal but two days sounded a bit too long unless you prefer t go around the park more leisurely.

I arrived at around 9:30am and queued for the obligatory photo with Mickey and Minnie at the entrance then proceeded for the rides. Do make use of the fast passes for rides like Winnie the Pooh honeypot, Buzzlight year, Space Mountain. if you're also keen on the performances then do take note of the timings. We skipped the shops altogether as you can always go there after the fireworks and it's lot less crowded with shorter queues for payment too.

From the HK airport, you can catch the airport express to Kowloon Station.

Complimentary hotel shuttle from Plaza Royal Hotel stops over at Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Station for the Airport Express. But please check the timing of the shuttle cos not sure what is the time of flight you arrive in.
