Ds2 will be taking PSLE this year. if he is weak in Chinese, (actually not good in english too), should i avoid all SAP schools when it comes to sec school selection? thks

I think he got D6 or D7 in ‘O’-Level Higher Chinese but he didn’t have to take Chinese again at A-Levels. Phew!

I don’t think she can switch like that unless her BC indicates double-barreled race.

If she is Chinese race, must study CL, unless got medical reason for exemption. That is what I know.

my second daughter took CL at first - shes now at P3..however in the middle of P3 even her CL tr gives up ...and we wrote a letter (fill the form) to MOE asking for changing to Malay and it is been approved. her sister at P6 really struggling for CL however she cant change since shes at P6 ( isaw how struggling she was. and her CL may drag down her psle score :sad: ) she told me she wants to change to Malay for sec 1 but dont know whether MOE agree or not coz her psle MT is CL...

do you think MOE will agree?

when son got into the school, I spent a lot of time coaching him for HCL at the expense of English & math.
he managed to hang on until end of p4 and at p5, he switched to standard Chinese.

But if she never learn Malay before in primary school, won't it be difficult for her to learn Malay in Secondary school, unless she is baba, speak Malay at home too ?

we dont speak malay at home actually but since we are from indonesia - I thinl malay and Indonesia languanges are quite the same ... perhaps. even we have chineese race but we dont speak chineese ...this CL is so so difficult for her :sad:

He can take normal chinese.

School ends at 1.45pm. Staying back is for cca or project work.

Dont think chs have a stressful environment. Its more relax then most schools..

Strongly Agreed. My boy enjoys playing football every day either during lunch break or after school.

CHS is a good boys school be it IP or O levels.

In the past, I hoped that my ds can make it to CHS. Alas, its not meant to be.

So, I think its worth considering!

may i know how did the school determine if the child can take HCL? based on psle chinese results? like those who get A* for chinese will automatically take HCL from sec 1 onwards. or they will only assess after sec 1 ?

If he get about 250 and above ( should be top 10% in psle)for psle but never take higher chinese in psle, he entitle for Higher Chinese for SAP school.
If he take higher chinese in psle, then he will entitle for higher chinese.

If the child is not within top 10% in his cohort, he needs to get at least a merit for HCL in PSLE & at least within 11-30% in his cohort to continue taking HCL in Sec 1. However, those who qualified will still have the option to opt out. You might want to let your son try out for a year & then decide whether to continue. My son did not do HCL in primary school & Chinese is his weakest subject too. We have choose to let him try out HCL in Sec 1. However, it is compulsory for IP track students to take HCL. All the information can be found in the Sec schools selection booklet.

Have to join 1 core from uniform group, sports or aesthetics

They have the option to join a non-core like debate, IT etc

Most of my ds classmates joined 2 cca

Actually the cop for the ip and o level tracks are very close. Yes my ds is in the ip program.

Its a great school with a pretty relaxed atmosphere. The O level track is more focus on academic excellence than the ip track which is more gear towards the learning journey.

Both tracks are exposed to similar programs and electives.

One thing to note is the school is very serious about its cca. So must be prepared to spend time on that.

My ds is in CHS and they use english extensively.

Students are also allowed to choose hcl or cl

Not all sap school use chinese as language of communication....there are some where english is use widely...
