<![CDATA[Which is your most preferred bank for accounts?]]>depends whether you want to use it as a checking or savings account. so far, the interest rates in savings accounts have been quite good. i use uob one because of the better rates especially for the first $100k but it mostly depends on what’s the purpose of your account. just to caveat, to reach the higher interest rates, there are usually criterias you need to hit - minimum spending, salary deposit etc so keep that in mind too.

2) There is always this $2 deductable monthly account fee from my posb acc. but the thing is, my acc balance is not below their required balance. could the $2 be due to maintaning my cheque book?
You can go for cimb star saver account, which doesn't charge for cheque as long as you maintain the acct above the min sum (cannot remember the min sum , but around $1000?)

I think it is the monthly fee for maintaining the current account which gives you that cheque book, that costs another $10. Closing your current account will make sure you can no longer use the cheque book.

Confirm with posb, but I think this happened to me about 20 years ago.

Based on a recent communication, they are going to levy annual fees (previously they said they would but it’s probably too well hidden), plus monthly fees (SGD2 for the account, no mention of waiver for if put in $x).


Not sure if anyone else uses this account, just be aware of the coming changes.

you can actually set up the sms notification for amounts > certain number credited to your account.

It seems this is the only bank that offers such a service which I think it is excellent esp for those who issue many cheques in a month.

Exactly and that is why I still request for the printed monthly statement.

Even when a cheque is cleared (e.g more than 10K), Citi will send SMS to inform you.

mostly foreign banks like citibank, hsbc etc.

Do note that sms is not a \"guarantee\" system as the sending of sms doesn't equates to a definite receiving of sms, and there is no retry mechanism when the sms gets \"lost\". But in general, you should receive it.
