I have to drop 1 drop of atropine into his eyes each night. Kid is now using progressive lens plus Transitions (it's a must to have to protect eyes). <br /><br /><br />Understand that atropine basically disables the eye's muscle to do near focus and this helps to slow down myopia. So now he looks a bit like old man when reading near things. He is not supposed to go out into strong sun (not without cap) becos of glare and sunlight has more a adverse effect (cataracts in future perhaps). (BTW, when i used to go SNEC for checkup, they will put atropine drops to dilate the eyes before doctor will see me). <br /><br />I understand there still may be side effects in time to come, but decided to take the gamble when his myopia worsened. Centre assures me that they have seen a lot of success cases where myopia was halted or growth retarded, and that atropine has been studied for some time. <br /><br />BTW, this myopia control program is only for young kids (prob primary school) becos it's when their growth rate is highest (and therefore myopia progression is fastest). After 13y/o, I think cannot help anymore. <br /><br />SNEC has the same program, but I fear the waiting time (not sure if it's the same as those going for other checks). Thus my decision to sign up with that centre. Interested persons can check with their eye doctors. They use 1% eye drops. I was initially a bit concerned but the optometrist waved it away by the kids they had before. Will raise it up again. where this is concerned, I dun mind putting him on lower concentration. <br /><br /><br />In Eagle eye, kids are ‘closely monitored’ - eye doctor to see them, take pictures of eyeball, etc, does SNEC say can just buy off the shelf? The 0.01% dosage had the best results with minimal side effects. The report said the diluted eye drops will be commercially available in 6 months’ time. <br /><br />They also interviewed a KKH eye doc who said he uses 1% atropine currently with young kids. So do check if Eagle Eye also prescribed 1% drops to your kid. If most eye docs do this, then I’ll wait till next year before taking DS for the new 0.01% eye drops.<br /><br />Thanks</p>

Have to go back check tonight. But I think glare is a common side effect.  <br /><br /><br />DS mentioned there was some glare but he doesn’t seem discomfited by it; it’s more the inability to do near work that frustrates him at times.</p>
