Water pens? I don't know about that... I let my kids use traditional calligraphy brush, replace the ink with water.

OIC, your photo resembles those Berries water pens that students use to practise their strokes on similar grey (carbonised?) cloth...:)

I'm using these for my kids to practice Chinese Calligraphy, water not ink, SGD3.00 each.
I got this too from Berries.

But bear in mind water pens require diff grip from 书法 brushes。I learnt 书法和水墨画for several yrs when I was in pr sch. U need to grip the brush in a specific way and no arm or elbow rest for 书法。Very siong! But we used to play cheat by resting elbow on table. Usually after ink has dried up.

Do you mean 宣纸 (xuan1 zhi3)? I saw Popular selling them. You can use the calligraphy exercise books too, also can be found at Popular or other bookstores.
