It’s smaller than my wallet in size.


It was really useful. was able to stream video, photos, etc. from phone/tablet to the TV. Kids were happily enjoying watching 神雕侠侣 and 射雕英雄传 from youku streamed from my phone.

My father was also happily using it to show the photos he took during his trips, to my mother. He even asked me to bring it along when visiting relatives, so he can show it off…

Only later, when w bought those android box, then stopped using the screening box.

I've ordered one. Think I will test it out at one of my centres. If it works well, I will roll it out to the other centres. I need it to work with both android and iOS so that my staff can easily use their phones to mirror some videos or slides onto our TV which is grossly under utilised. It will be great if it can work with our laptops and some of the educational aps that we use. If not, it will be back to laptop, projector and screen for those.

Any review?

Easy enough to install and use. But like what some of you have mentioned. It does not work with all applications. Youtube and internet ok. But for some of our edu apps, we will still have to go the comp with HDMI connected to the tv or projector and screen. But just those few apps that it supports already does provide quite a fair bit of convenience for my staff.

If I'm not wrong, MHL kinda hardwires your phone to the TV...on one side is the phone's usb...the other side is the HDMI of the TV. Was told newer phones donch support MHL anymore...unverified.

MHL is a USB to HDMI converter. You can get MHL cables cheaply these days, because it is no longer supported by Samsung since Galaxy Note 5. That's because they are trying to drive users to use wireless mirroring which is present on many modern LED TVs. Note sure about non Samsung phones, though.

Strictly speaking, Chromecast is not a generic mirroring device. Your apps must work with Chromecast. So if you are thinking of showing off some of the educational apps you have, Chromecast may not be the best solution. Better for you to get a proper Android Box to install and run those apps.

Or you can simply invest in a $10-$18 MHL cable 🙂 That works fine too.

It works well, but only for some compatible Android applications like Youtube and Netflix. It does not mirror the whole phone or OS. So developers have to write their applications with special support for Chromecast.


There’s also a newer 4k version of Chromecast that hit the market 6 weeks ago. This one is very expensive, selling for like S$150.

Content being blocked has nothing to do with Chromecast. Chromecast merely receives
signal from your phone/tablet/computer and display on the TV.

I'm interested too. Currently we connect old smartphone to TV to watch youtube (so DS's eyes won't deteriorate further from watching youtube on the phone). It is so leceh because sometimes we forgot to charge the smartphone :faint:
yes, the old times....I also used to plug in my laptop to let them watch youtube on tv. not hdmi somemore. my tv no hdmi. using monitor cable. 😆
