Don’t like it at all. Gun is heavy, your arm will hurt a lot especially when the coach instructs you to practise holding it in mid air for very long. I’m in pistol and I can say that pistol is harder than rifle, because all pistol shooters are only allowed to hold the gun with 1 hand, while for rifle shooters they can carry the weight of the gun with their whole body. Imagine holding something which weighs between 2-5kg with only 1 hand (arm must be straight) for a long time. I don’t know about how they teach shooting outside, but I can say for sure the shooting in my school is no fun. Just stand there hold the gun up put down the gun hold the gun up put down the gun, also if unlucky, get a coach who make you hold the gun for very long and give you maybe 10 second rest, while training no break. I’m speaking from experience. Other school/outside course may differ though, but I wouldn’t take the ‘risk’ if I were you, unless you’re really passionate about shooting. Volleyball seems more fun, although is tougher. Will definitely choose a cca which has tougher training but more fun than just standing there whole training carrying a heavy gun with your arm going up down up down.

Becuz my dd's school is in the north, SSP invited her school's P6 (only) cohort to try shooting at SSP. Program started about March. Its a six-week course on pistol that culminates in a mini competition with trophy!
During this course, SSP coaches will also keep an eye on its shooters to look for potential candidates to join SSP in its shooting academy. If successful, your dc may be offered a DSA to SSP. Shortlisted candidates will undergo further trials for assessment. Coaches are very friendly, and the SSP students are a disciplined bunch on the range.
Altius is a private academy and has done quite well groomig students for DSA for top schools. Some of my dd's schoolmates were from Altius and went to the JSA shooting and were offered DSAs.
IF your dc is interested, start with the private schools - the coaches are good and groups are kept small. They will give dc a headstart and possible DSA.
Having seen how serious my dd was at each session, its quite addictive and requires loads of concentration!

ohms

Reply to All about Shooting on Wed, 28 Aug 2013 00:55:16 GMT

Thank you for clarification...

Looks like there's no one went for JSA here?

2littlemonkeys

Reply to All about Shooting on Wed, 28 Aug 2013 00:46:39 GMT

2littlemonkeys:

\"Nominated by the school to JSA trial\" means Altius Global nominated ur boy?

When Altius Global says P4 does it mean he has to be 10yo or just P4 regardless which month is he born in?

To enroll into JSA trial, child has to be P4(10yo)...

2littlemonkeys, Altius Global and JSA are two separate entities.
