I expect you know this, but I think it's worth stating, just in case - If she doesn't have O levels, she won't be applying in the same admissions exercise as local kids with O level results. Check the individual poly websites for info. Most should be in Jan, but I recall that SP was in Dec (this was 3 years ago, though).

In your daughter's case, because she isn't in the normal applications group, just apply to as many polys and courses as she is willing to consider. For each poly, you can list a few courses in order of preference. No harm having several back-ups. They should understand - after all, the kids with O levels get to list up to 12 choices. And yes, if she gets more than 1 offer, she can choose the one she wants and reject the rest.

There are Nursing degree programmes at NUS and SIT too. Would she want to consider those?

Thank you for your advise slmkhoo. It certainly does help to know that I am not being kiasu πŸ˜‚ Yes she have applied for NUS. Guess she wasn't able to compete with the other students coz she got rejected and wasted the one year while waiting for that reply from NUS. I have seen SIT admission requirements for Nursing. They only accept Local Diploma and that is why I never get her to try apply. Thanks again for the advise.

No lectures. Typically at the beginning of each school day, the students gather with their tutor to discuss the objectives (in the form of a problem) of the day. Students then go about by themselves to find the answers to their objectives. At the end of the day, they gather again to present their solutions/answers. Tutor and peers will critique and question.


PBL is VERY different from secondary school. Most students will take some time to adapt to this method of teaching and learning.

In poly, schooling hour is different daily. I don't think you can change poly after year 1 but may be able to change course as what I heard from a friend.

Thanks for the question and sorry for the delay in responding.

There is a Direct Poly Admission exercise (DPA) which will happen in late June/ early July where we will consider the applicants' certifications, academic & CCA achievements, special talents, prelim results, etc. Shortlisted applicants will also be interviewed.

All polys will be doing DPA during the same period.

I think it's great that RP opens up communications with this thread. As my son opted for a Poly education, we had to go down to his choice Poly to ask, definitely a tad more inconvenient πŸ˜‰

But since we are talking, I would like to ask about DSA. My second son is sitting for his O level this year and plans to go Poly next year. He is a bowler and I wonder is there any DSA into either RP or other Polys in general?
