One grouse I have with the range of 'Panadol' is that there are now many variants with additional drugs, and for those who still think that all Panadol are purely paracetamol, they may end up taking something that doesn't agree with them. I have stopped buying Panadol (except for the Cold Relief) as I found that the generic paracetamol at Unity is so much cheaper.

those prescribed anarex is 2-in-1…a muscle relaxant. so if the doctors prescribed this, do NOT take additional paracetamol.

Running a fever , no cough no cold no flu.


So I thought I self medicate. From Friday to Sunday I took about 20 panadol. Felt so dizzle and lousy.

So I went for TCM on Monday , was prescribed Chinese Herbs that can reduce the fever.

Friday, Sat,Sun and Monday ...fever is like YOYO.
Was told by the TCM that if Fever continues to be YOYO -must go clinic to check for Dengue :scared:

Today Tuesday , decided to visit Western Doctor and was diagnosed with Tonsillitis-throat infection. Was prescribed with Antibiotics. Hopefully it helps! :xedfingers:

Only bacteria infections are curable through antibotics.

Every time I go to him with fever, cough, running nose - I get:


Paracetamol (Panadol, Biogesic)
Danzen
Phlegm tablets (Mucuosolva)
Throat lozenges
Antihistamines (Centirizine, Chloramine, Bendaryl)
Nasal sprays (Fluticasone)
Antibiotics (Doxycycline, Amoxicilin)

Every time, for years (except for antibiotics, which depends on phlegm color and such - I think). I could self-prescribe with my eyes closed.

But really, it’s excessive in my opinion - I don’t take even close to the whole load; they just accumulate in the cupboard. At least my (very brilliant) insurance covers everything.

Is she keeping within the dosage limit? You may want to get someone with medical expertise to advise her - all drugs are toxic to some extent, and taking them for a prolonged period can put a strain on the body. For paracetamol, I believe it can strain the liver. The side effects are small when compared to the benefits of reducing fever and pain, but even so, the drug is only supposed to be taken for a few days at a time.

Please don't play doctor when you are not a doctor and giving advices. My relative didn't give panadol prescribed by doctor for her child when the child was having high fever. She told us that she was worried that panadol will give side effects so she gave alternative medicines. Since then the child became physically and mentally disabled because the brain apparently was affected. The mother regretted her decision but regret is also no use. Maybe the child has other conditions but my point is that please do not give advice on important things like this when you are not a doctor.

And you trust a posting in FB more than various governments that have tested our medicines???

Certainly that is not the only drug his prescribed, ya? Some generic ones are low dosage so maybe 2 tabs each time...3 times daily for 3 days is already 18 tabs.

They don't issue other types of pain killers indiscriminately as most others are NSAIDs (ibuprofen, voltaren, synflex etc) which some pple may be allergic to. Paracetamol is still the safest. We don't visit the doctor unless we need stronger cough syrups, steroids or antibiotics. Most other meds can be bought from the pharmacist.

You can get the NSAIDs from pharmacies, but some are at reduced strength compared to what you can get with a prescription. But yes, my husband ended up in hospital with internal bleeding due to ibuprofen and now he avoids it.

Depends on how many you take and for what period. Paracetamol is a cheap and effective pain killer and fever reliever with few side effects, which is why it's so popular. I always have some on standby.

No lah, not exactly the same as the OTC Panadol. It's other brand(s) of Paracetemol drug...at least in my case... GP knows u r there to see him solely cos of the MC, so usually he will give u the common drug. Mine will ask if I need; if not, just take my MC and scram! :siam:

I think panadol is standard medication for fever be it Polyclinic, GP or Hospital.

However, you can always tell the doctor that you don't need panadol as you have supplies at home.

I always do that n the doc is fine with it.

If not, we prefer to self-medicate. Saves time, energy and money. We will see the doctor if we think we need antibiotics as those need a prescription.


As an aside, I recently bought generic paracetamol from Unity at around $3 for 100 tablets! They only expire in 2017.
