She uses all her own mental and guessing which i found out is one of the 2 methods that will be taught.<br /><br />1. Guess &amp; check method where they draw up a  table to eliminate the possibilities<br />2. Assumption method. You assume all the animals has the same number of legs first. I.e. assume all the animals are ducks first. <br />a. Say all ducks total number of legs. 9 x 2 legs = 18 legs.<br />b. Extra number of legs. 24 legs - 18 legs = 6 extra legs<br />c. difference between the no of legs of a tiger and a duck. 4-2 = 2<br />d. 6 divide by 2 = 3. <br />therefore, there are 3 tigers.<br /><br />I still dont understand the actual method breakdown but this is one good example of Heuristic Maths.<br /><br />Surprisely, it kinda interest me a little… its so interesting…going back to school all over again…</p>
