Wix is quite tricky to use especially for beginners. Wordpress is userfriendly but you always have to make sure to back it up.

While I use Divi, I see the value and benefit of using Elementor Pro.
However, if you are not building a pro or commercial website, the extra $ paid for the 'pro' would not be worth it.

I'm using the free version. it's really good enough for a simple & nice looking website, and easy for beginners to get into.

I'm setting up a simple website for one of my workplaces - any recommendations for where to register the domain? Should I register with wordpress if I plan to use one of their templates or is it better to get a local company? Also is there any redress if a third-party ran off with a company's original domain details?

Here are some possible things for you to do:
1. Choose a hosting site. I assume that you are trying to build a public website. We started on a US Site called Siteground which provides remote server access for about $20 a year. When the community grew we set up a SG site costs us about $2K a month.
2. Buy a domain name. That can be reserved using any DNS provider. We used GoDaddy.
3. Your hosting provider can either be full or bare metal. Some, like Wordpress, provides that software that allows you to set up the site. Others require you to do development before the site can run.

Regardless, you need to set up a team minimally comprising 2 persons: someone good with the technical details and someone good with the business. It is unlikely that the same person has both skills,

Quite easy to DIY. But we quickly ran into scalability problems as the site grew. We went over to Drupal, and finally WordPress. But I still kind of prefer Drupal for its scalability, athough much has been done to WordPress to improve its appeal.
