He is also sec 3 this year going sec 4 and has improved from B4 during his sec 1 end of year to A1 over the 2 years with the tutor so I'm quite thankful. plus languages need time i suppose, hard to see immediate improvement within weeks. unlike languages, I think maths and science can go for bigger group tuition, that's what my ds doing, not too expensive but still effective.

verybewildered

Reply to Sec3 failure in subjects. Sometimes, dropping these might help! I also had very decent PSLE score, but when I was in Sec 3 SA1, my math score plunged suddenly to 60+!

Why? I had a passive Math teacher, was distracted by BGR & fashion, ECAs and spent a lot of time practising my piano. As such, I decided to give up my piano exams, cut myself from boys totally, go to church and hang out with the highly competitive top nerds in my class.

Most imptly, for the first time ever, I found myself a PRIVATE tutor (randomly found thru classified ads). She was a god-sent! Without her, I'd still be reasoning along the wrong track and solving the problems based on wrong logic. Thanks to her one-on-one guidance, my next exam score shot up to 97!

Besides finding her a PRIVATE tutor, your DD's 心理素质 is very impt. Keep encouraging her and help her set realistic targets, amid your busy schedules.

Not sure how as working parents you could persuade her exercise self-discipline, like abstain from TV, no 煲电话粥 and online games *_*

If she had done well for history, it shows that she must hv a photographic memory, so why not capitalise on that to memorise the Periodic Table elements & nos, chem properties, then get the private tutor to coach her on how to apply that foundational knowledge to deduce the reactions and carry out the QA... Anyway, I'm no chem guru, so best to leave it to the experts to guide you on the strategies

Good luck!

jetsetter

Reply to Sec3 failure in subjects. For Maths, I think it's good to revisit topics from Sec 1 and build all the way up.
