We also told them never to be embarrassed to move away if any person made them feel uncomfortable by getting too close etc. They carried a mobile phone, so I said they should just call me anytime. Risks are everywhere, and we can't protect our kids forever. Teaching them how to survive is better protection than escorting them everywhere, but of course, you have to assess how mature your girl is before you start.<p></p></blockquote>DD will turn 10 in 2 wk... <br /><br />we were thinking of roughly the same thing, start off with easy/simple routes first, and it's actually very simple one that we started last Sat. Tmr I will attempt to hide somewhere to see how she does it again, and hopefully i won't miss her like i did last week. <br /><br />She's quite kaypo and would like to stop to look at things though, hence our concern.<br /><br />i was telling DW that when i was in P4, i was walking 1.5 km to/from pri sch, crossing a few roads. But now it's so very different. people are probably worse than last time, and the roads are so much more crowded with cars, and drivers are almost certainly worse, so it might not be safe...
