<![CDATA[Triple Sciences]]>Hi, my girl is thinking of taking triple Science when she goes to year 3. She is seriously thinking very hard because she is not good in Science. However, she feels that being expose to triple Science would give her a better idea if to continue selecting triple Science or not, which Science, when she chooses subjects again in year 5. We have heard how difficult triple Sciences are, morever she is more of a language person.

Not sure, but probably low demand. There is a general preference for science subjects, even now after 40+ years of the Humanities programme and it's predecessors. And because it's usually the weaker students who take more humanities, they often take only 6-7 subjects at O levels, which leaves little room for 3 humanities subjects.

I think it's possible at O levels, but maybe few students will want that. 2 languages, 1 math, 1 science, are the minimum, and social studies is paired with a humanities; there are enough slots left for 2 humanities. In IP schools, it depends on what the school sets as a minimum - if they require an extra math, and social studies is also a full subject, then there are fewer slots left.

At A level, as long as one of the four subjects is 'contrasting', the other 3 subjects can be all humanities. It seems there is a restriction that a student isn't allowed to offer both Geog and Hist at A levels, but I don't know if that is an SEAB rule or a JC rule. But there are more humanities subjects available than the basic 3 (Lit, Geog, Hist), depending on the JC.

No need to take Triple Science,
at Upper Sec (3 and 4).
Take Double Science at Upper Sec will do,

because

all Junior Colleges imposed this \"contrasting\" subject requirement, so end up maximum,
u are only allowed to do Double Pure Science subjects, in your A-level JC curriculum.

Thus,
at the end of your Lower Secondary 2 year-end (October / November) streaming exercise,
before entry
into Upper Sec (3 and 4),
if still keen in Double Pure Science subject combination,
can decide for yourself,
whether u want

Pure (Chem + Physics)

OR
prefer

Pure (Chem + Bio).

then choose or drop which one (subject) ?

Ask yourself this fundamental, basic question.
In my future career that I aspire to work towards to, after my university graduation in year 20xx,
does my future career
require me to have a working knowledge of ... Physics or Bio ?

Then,
discard away that subject, which u know u won't need to rely upon, going forward.

Agree. Although I did my MA sponsored by my then-employer and I served a 5-year bond with them. But I haven't practised that profession in any serious way since then, and restarted working (at 51) in a related but different profession.

I was very happy when there were online SkillsFuture courses in the \"mid-range\" during Covid - not just for either absolute beginners or people intending to specialise. I find that now, SkillsFuture courses seem to be targeted at either end of the spectrum which is not useful to me. I'm not planning to change lines at this age, and there are no higher-end courses for my specialty, but I would like to broaden my range as an \"educated layman\" in some areas. And I also want the courses to be asynchronous and online! So my unused SkillsFuture funds are likely to stay unused.
