It used to be good with entry point of 250 like any other SAP schools in the past .Its standard had declined over the years. My boss who is a scholar graduated from there n hwa chong has very good command of Chinese . One of our ministers or may be more were also from MS.

Chung Cheng yishun (branch ) comparatively may not have that culture n environment and comparative standard. In term of CCA, I will think MS has its niche in table tennis, badminton n basketball .
With the new principal who took over a few years , I see more positive changes in the school .
.It is also one of the schools that has shelter from mrt Station to the school .

However, when choosing A school , distance is important .if u stay along circle line , then it is ok. Otherwise , I will choose one that is near to my place .save time in traveling n more convenient . Academic wise , it is really depend on individual . If u are hardworking n smart , u will be at the top in a neighbourhood school . Then Going to JC is not a issue . Chung CHENG ( main n branch) are affiliated to NYJC. It's cut off is 8. But I have a friend 'son from MS with raw score 12 cut off higher Chinese n CCA 4 points with net of 8 points couldnt get in to NYJC. So affiliation point is crucial . A student with raw score of 10 with no higher Chinese or affiliation point will lose out to a student with a raw score of 11 with affiliation or higher Chinese point deduction .

For MS, as a full school , in future , your son can enroll his ds to Maris Stella primary if the phase 2A still remain . whereas Chung CHENG will not have that advantage .

magiccastle

Reply to Maris Stella High vs Chung Cheng High Yishun on Wed, 27 Nov 2013 15:04:35 GMT

Imp75:
These are two very different genres of schools, one is a more Chinese-oriented environment while the other is more angmoh pai and Christian school so do these differences matter to you? Good focus on studies & also equal emphasis on CCAs. Also has very good character development program for all students 弟子规. Students very respectful. My son actually became more courteous & even bow to his trs when I attended Meet Parents Session.

Chung Cheng Yishun affiliated to NYJC -heard NYJC COP now only single digit.
Obviously better deal if choose Chung Cheng Yishun as compared to Maris Stella affiliated to CJC. Think NYJC better.
Anyway, Chung Cheng Yishun has good facilities & more important good character program & emphasized on studies.
In Yishun, Sembawang area think Chung Cheng Yishun seems to be the best option. Heard in 2012 COP same as Yishun Town which is autonomous - Chung Cheng Yishun not autonomous yet can achieve same COP as autonomous schools like Yishun Town & Xinmin, program must be good. Never regretted sending my son to Chung Cheng Yishun. Also, I stay near Yishun Town - heard from neighbours who have children in the sch that Yishun Town used to be very good when they had a male P last time who was posted out. Judging from the laments from my neighbours, Yishun Town not as good anymore under the new female P. If I didn’t hear wrongly, the very experienced VP is leaving for another sch. So you may want to choose Chung Cheng Yishun. Of course, Maris Stella not too bad although some bad publicity some months back but guess it is just unfortunate.
