What is experience of parents , is it foolhardy to expect this.. Will you regret decision in 3-4 months & switch back to neighbourhood school>

What time Secondary school starts 7.30 or 8 AM. If it is 8 AM, it is still possible .. she is early riser , but quite kiasu in terms of keeping lots of allowance to reach in time :stupid:

My kids (boy and girl)started taking public transport by themselves since P3. Their school is in Bukit Timah but we live in the East.


They have to take bus and then change to MRT. I drive them to school in the morning so that they can sleep in late and pick them up only if they have CCA. Otherwise they go home by public transport daily.

Not to worry. Kids learn fast, their knowledge of public transport system in Singapore better than mine.

There’s not much difference (in savings) between 1 way and 2 way school bus journey.

From my experience, no such case and usually when come to Sec School, the bus operator only provides one way. My dd's school, for first 1/2 year of school days, its about $400.

Will have to be very Careful once result comes... We are not kind of who follow up /appeal for change... whatever come in placement will have to send her to that school... Looks like Tanjong Katong is out though it will be within COP. Since it will take more than hour to reach there .. Once it is 7 plus , delay will multiply beacuse of congestion in that area.

Better go for St Anthony Sec school

It is very common for youngsters nowadays to take public transport to school and the journey lasts about an hour. Just to share what my DS did. He had the comfort of the schoolbus driver picking up from our doorstep every morning. But there are a few occasions when he actually prefers to take public transport to school in the morning. It is not an easy task. He needs to take a bus to the interchange, take the mrt and take another bus before he reaches his school. The whole journey took an hour or so.
And he is 9 years old. When he has CCA and needs to stay back after school, he comes home by hinself too. He assured me that he is old enough to be independant and can take the public transport by himself and I should not worry.
So do not worry about your girl taking public transport and the journey is an hour. This is very normal.

My gal started to take public transport on her own since P4. She takes school bus early in the morning and comes back herself by taking 2 public buses since she has to stay back most of the days. She was a transferred student to a school in the central area from a neighbourhood school. The journey takes her 1 hour daily. She has no regret of transferring there.

My P6 gal takes sch bus in the morning @ 5.45am. Come back on her own daily via bus and MRT daily more than an hr. Next year sec 1, she is going to take train and bus to and fro.
My maid will travel with my P3 gal to TPY MRT station and let her take fedder bus. Every day, she travels back home via bus and train mostly on her own. They are both trained till very independent, and they contact me & our maid constantly with the hp.

Correct me if I'm wrong but PLMGS has both express & normal stream. But TKGS has only express stream. So if you are looking for a school that offers only express, TKGS or Cedar (if able to meet the COP) would be a better choice. My sec 1 girl had been taking the public transport to & fro since P5. She needs to take bus, MRT & bus to reach her sec school and has no complaint. In fact, she prefers to take public transport than having us to drive her to school. Reasons being she can be with her friends :stupid:

Schools with Primary Afflitation will have to take Normal stream students... While ones with no afflitaation have no such obligation..there are only 4 Girls school with no affliation TKGS, Cedar, Raffels & Cresent Girls.

It should not matter that school has Normal stream students, they would be in seperate class ... 188 is cutoff between normal & Express

I always had the impression that TKGS has higher COP than PLMGS(S).

Anyway, they are changing the affiliation points system for PL Pri, so this year might be the year they'll take in alot of students from other primary schools.

No harm calling them after release of results to check. This is a school in which you can get in rather easily through appeal 🙂

I know for PLMGS, if you don't mind HDB, the prices of the houses in that area are affordable plus good ammenities nearby. If budget permits, there's private houses within walking distance too. Else there's a condo (Minton Rise) converted from old HDB flats.

For S1 student, 1 hour bus ride is quite alright. Assuming assembly is at 7.30am, it's good to reach school by 7.15am. 1 hour bus ride means leave home by 6.10am. Wake up at 5.30am? I think it's quite alright. For PL, they do have school bus (with PL Pri). Quite a number of them take school bus to school, then take public transport home.

Some schools start at 7.30am, i know one that start at 8am. NYGH will start at 8am on Mondays only.

Many of my son’s classmates stay very far away, some need to change 3 buses to reach home. They normally take school bus in the morning, and get home by themselves after school.

1 hour including waiting time for the bus / MRT, is not very far, in my opinion.

I know of kids as young as P4 who take public transport to and from school, with journeys lasting about an hour. They’re doing fine, although they sometimes turn up late for school.
