if emotional needs are met at home, the child would not need to seek attention by having a girlfriend/boyfriend. at this tender young age, what do they really understand from having a relationship.

Son told me his classmates have girlfriends.

I asked him if he is interested in anyone...he said no.
He said having a girlfriend will cost money...Not only that, he doesn't have the means to have one....I told him to study hard and focus on his studies for now.

In my observations and analysis, those who have girl/boyfriend at young age, esp during sec school time usually dont have good relationship (emotional attachment) with their parents and/or dont have a good circle of friends and/or dont have proper hobbies .

Coz the attachment needs with parents are not met at home, they seek to meet such needs outside.

Coz dont have good circle of friends and/or proper hobbies to kill time, they fantasise meeting 'someone' who cares = they are likely to meet this someone who cares.

Parents whom yourself ever been through relationship/s during sec school time may reflect in my analysis and then to see the truth of such.

Told them they can have many friends of the opposite gender, but don't narrow down to one Darling too soon.


Also told them that the only question to a lasting relationship is \"will you marry me?\" , not \"Will you be my boy/girl friend?\" - relationships built on the latter question rarely last till time for the first question. 😄

Even if we disallow, kids will inadvertently find a way to date if they really want to.


Instead of disallowing, perhaps keeping an open mind will encourage your kids to be more willing to share their BGR issues with you. This way, you will be able to monitor the situation closely.
