Only feel painful at the arch when do long haul jogging.

Thank you.

Hi Mum24h,

Not sure if you found a solution to this but I would recommend getting checked out by a Podiatrist. Usually, if the flat feet aren't that severe, it can be asymptomatic until after long walks/runs where it starts to ache. However, because flat feet isn't the 'normal' way feet should be, there is the misalignment and unnatural compensation made by your legs in order to walk 'normally'.

Consequently, your knees might tilt inwards and cause extra wear and tear in the knee joints which might result in osteoarthritis in your 40s/50s. Best to prevent other conditions like osteoarthritis as flat feet are very difficult to cure, especially when you seek treatment after childhood.

I would recommend checking this podiatrist out: https://familypodiatrycentre.com/

What to expect:
- You'll go through a consultation
- some gait/walking analysis
- foot mould/scan analysis
- explanation of treatment plan
- making and waiting for custom orthotics/flat feet insoles
- shoe auditing (they check your shoes to see which are best for your feet and the insoles)
- feet exercises
- follow-ups

Initially, it's not going to be comfortable and it does take a while to adjust and get used to the insoles and new footwear etc. And getting your child to comply and stick to the treatment plan is going to be your biggest challenge since they won't like the discomfort. But stick with it and you will see results - trust the process.

Best to send your child in early as their feet are more adaptable and muscle memory can be trained easier. However, adults can also benefit from the treatment, just not cure. More symptomatic relief and preventive measures.

Hope this helps! All the best!

mrsho

Reply to Flat Feet Problem on Fri, 27 Aug 2021 15:09:31 GMT

joshuaSaul\" post_id=\"2035675\" time=\"1630074783\" user_id=\"194591:

flat feets are genetic if the kid is not complaining about pain than you dont have to worry, but i think he will not be able to join any kind of armed forces, that is the backdraw of it.

Not true that one cannot join any of the armed forces.. my son did even though he has it.

tsh0202

Reply to Flat Feet Problem on Thu, 05 Nov 2020 05:33:59 GMT

I think best to see a Professional to get the best advice. Some people appear to have a very low arch or no arch without ever experiencing problems. When flat feet do cause symptoms, simple devices and exercises can help to minimize the discomfort.

haha definitely not the most popular opinion but you are correct. It's perfectly fine to have a \"flat\" foot.

In cases of symptomatic, flat feet, it's also important to differentiate between a functional vs. a structural flat foot. Most people think they have flat feet but it's actually a functional flat foot. In the sense if they lift up their feet in the air, the arch appears. The arch disappears only when they put weight on it.

In cases like this, the best approach is to focus on exercises that train the intrinsic foot muscles. It delivers the best long-term symptomatic relief.

squareone

Reply to Flat Feet Problem on Thu, 23 Aug 2018 04:48:31 GMT

My kid has flat feet and walks on the balls of the soles instead of heel first.
