Don’t get influenced by others students. There are some who do not want to study. I think you should mix with children who wish to go university. You need to do all the projects if they are lazy and make sure the work is close to perfect before submitting. Start assignment as early as possible once it is released.

In each semester, the students take a few modules. In each module, there are projects, mid term assessments and final exam (for most modules). Each assessment component of each module in the three year poly program will add up to the final and cumulative GPA.

Consistency is very important. In a 15-week (for example) semester, if one slacks for 5 weeks, 1/3 of the semester is gone! Unlike O and A levels, where students can chiong in the last nine months leading to the exam, such strategy does not work at all in the polys and universities.

From day one, one needs to be consistent. Pay attention in class, pre-read, post reflection on learning, complete homework and self-study homework, consult teachers when in doubts on a timely basis; do not snowball readings, homework and doubts. Set a good and comfortable pace. So slow and steady as need good stamina for the full three years.

To get into the popular business school of local uni, one needs a GPA of 3.8/4. All the best!

Consistency in ICA is an important ingredient of many outstanding poly students. GPA cutoff for uni varies from course to course. If u need more details feel free to PM me

Like for example, the daily class participation and project work may have very high weightage for some, so you must participate actively in class

One really has to have the self-discipline to go consult your lecturers and tutors regularly to clear up your doubts.

CoffeeCat

Reply to HOW TO GET A GOOD GPA IN POLY? on Sat, 15 Mar 2014 05:17:36 GMT

There is only one rule: you have to be consistently hardworking.

The reason is because unlike secondary school, you can’t slack away for the first couple of years, work hard in your last year, and then you will end up with stellar grades. In polytechnics (and also university), there are no final exams after a few years of study. Each course/module you take contributes to your final GPA score. Screw up even one semester, and you pretty much can kiss a good final GPA score goodbye.

As for how to consistently do well, you have to attend every class, finish all your work, regularly consult your lecturers and tutors to be sure that you are on the right track and for modules that involve project work, be sure to have a bunch of reliable friends as group mates.

Im not entirely sure if any other alternative exists. Is that not straightforward enough? You go to school to study, universities are institutions of academia, hence you’d need to study?
