in hongkong, maids are indeed paid high salaries...but don't screw up because off they go...and not to another employer/agent but back to their own home. the flats there are small, so it's easy to finish the housework but employers have high expectations, kids have enrichment lessons after school, have to go marketing and cook.

How do they prevent these maids from job hopping around, from one employer to another ?

How do hk / tw govt or measures in place control them ?

I understand from one of my previous maid - ex HK... that if the employer doesn't want you... balek kampung... if you request to change employer... also balek kampung...
she said she took a loan to go HK... and when she cannot tahan the scolding from HK employer she asked to change employer and she was to know she can't :stupid: and she had to go back to fili... all in all. she incurred loan in HK, fili loan and it was her 1 year sal in SG...

A lot of 'lobangs' and poachings there. my mom's indon maid learnt thru another outgoing maid a job opportunity to work for an expat family. So she lied to my mom she had to go home mid-way into her second term. Later we found out from a relative's helper that she is now working for the angmoh. FDWs prefer to work for angmohs becos they are more chin chai, generous with freebies, and make their CV look more 'atas'.

Singapore is the stepping stone for maids whose a ultimate aim is taiwan or HK. Singaporean employers are the guinea pigs training those maids...from knowing nothing to knowing how to cook/wash and do housework.

Even though maids have to spend a longer time learning languages like mandarin/Cantonese in the agency back home...5 months compared to 2 months, they don't mind...but they lack working experience. My hongkonger friend told me the stall owners in HK are very fierce and scold people anytime...then maids also have to learn what to buy before Chinese 3rd month/7th month...very high expectations.

Actually hor, they are quite highly paid for their apprenticeship here.

Off day doesn't mean she must be physically out of the house. She can still rest at home, wake up late, nua in her room etc. As employer, you have the right to insist on giving her weekly off. My mum's helper was also disappointed that she has weekly off instead of monthly as she wants to earn more money. So she stays at home and nua. At least don't have to incur transport costs and spend money on meals.

Those who don't want weekly off or prefer to nua at home instead of going out are less likely to get up to hanky panky. Must jealously guard against being poached. So, can compromise and have fortnightly off also.

Of course...these maids all want to work in HK/Taiwan.
But employers in HK are very strict...they expect maids to learn fast on the job...even going to market to buy food can get scolded by stalls...screw up and off they go.
